• Re: Name your most dynamic song [H]

Got loads of music which is musically dynamic, but sonically flat. The Mars Volta - 'Frances The Mute' for instance, could sound so much better if it's dynamic range wasn't mashed (it's RMS is -5dB in places), even though the music is very dynamic. Shame really. There are loads of examples of music like this! Music which has a BIG

  • Re: Beolab 5 strangeness
So the SPDIF is converted back to analog for the PL? then what's the point?
Avoids an extra conversion step. When listening in speaker 5, the BeoVision/System will convert into digital for the surround sound DSP processing. By connecting the dig. out of the BM5 into the TV, you avoid the DAC in the BM5,

  • Re: Speakers do not power up.

Does the BeoSound 3000 respond to the remote control, and is it connecting to anything else except the speakers?

  • Re: Beolab 5 strangeness

Sounds like the ML has become unbalanced on one side. Either pin 15 or 16 is down (probably). Not sure if the BeoLab 5s will actually listen to the S/PDIF from the BeoMaster 5 unless it's set up properly as they only activate the digital inputs when in CD mode...

  • Re: BL11 placement

The wavelengths involved will be pretty huge in comparison to the size of the bookshelf, so I can't see that it's going to cause any issues. I'd put it in a section by itself without any books though...

  • Re: to close for audible and visual comfort.
A passive setup is a perfectly respectable way to listen. I agree with you, active is superior but it is not necessary to plainly discount the passive method.
+1 Of the high-end systems I've listened to which have really blown me away, most of them have actually been passive. Active as a principle is better

  • Re: to close for audible and visual comfort.

There is loads of stuff out there which gets very close to B&O, and very often better in terms of performance. Most of B&O's stuff is nothing special on the scale of sound quality. It sounds very good, but not mind-blowing. However, B&O are the only company who seem to offer a lifestyle product that will also satisfy the needs of a demanding

  • Re: BeoSound 8 distortion
Hi, As far as I know, all BeoLabs suffer bass distortion at high volumes, it comes from the way the ABL is working. ABL is good for listening at low to mid volumes, not high volumes, you'll get the same distortion on speakers pushed to their extremes, especially BL 6000 or 3500 where the drivers themselves are

  • Re: Beolab 4000 with ROTEL amplifier

Sounds like you are plugging the audio sources into the OUTPUTS on the Beomaster, not it's inputs. It's an easy mistake to make as I've seen so many cables where the labelling is the wrong way round! Check your connections again and if you're currently connected into the inputs, try swapping to the outputs on the DIN connectors. Each

  • Re: Beolab 4000 with ROTEL amplifier

Yes, if you set the BeoLabs to Line input it'll all work fine. Any particular reason why you're ditching the Beomaster though? I use mine as a preamp and find it works rather well. Don't know the RA 1520, but if the design and/or components are anything like the RA04, then the Beomaster 7000 will most probably outperform it! The RA04 is
