    Re: RL60.2 Refurb Collaboration

Alright everyone! It's show time!! Sorry I've taken so long, was a busy day and took me forever to get away from work.

Time to wrangle this thread back on track!!! Now where were we... Oh right, the cliff-hanger!

Here is what I think is the better speaker with its new cloth. I'm not exactly proud of how the fastening of the cloth was done but it has produced a fantastic result! Of which, both Todd and I are VERY proud!!

Like you suggested Leslie, we started with the embossing and worked off of that. We also used the "Red-Line" frame to help our cause and fasten the cloth using the screws. Finally, we took up all the extra slack with some strategically placed double sided tape.

    Re: RL60.2 Refurb Collaboration

I took this picture this morning as I walked out the door heading for work. The RL was struck in a ray of morning sun through the sky light.

    Awesome. Just plain awesome!

You can all be sure Todd and I shared many high-fives after the speaker was placed on its stand.

Cannot wait for a set of new plastic bands, then we'll be set! Cool

Leslie, thanks to you and your great instruction - the embossing turned out wonderfully! There is a small dimple at the very bottom corner of the embossing due to the small groove for the straps, which will be remedied by the straps.

    Evan:
Dare I ask what shipping would cost?

Ev, I really don't know but I think shpping from Europe to the US is expensive.

    That BM4000 weighs 10.4kg without any packing. Dimension packed would be roughly 70 x 40 x 20cm.

    Had a short look at DHL - Package with 120 x 60 x 60 max with 20kg to USA is 65 EURs.

That's much more than I paid for my BM's Sad Even counting in the spare parts I needed to repair them.

If you would have an idea.....

Or we can hand it over at Struer next year - but this would easily kill your free baggage weight Stick out tongue

       Gunther

EDIT: oops, Soren was there with the same idea Smile And for sure several 100 $$ are more than inacceptable.

EDIT2: And all the european BM4000's I know of are 104MHz only Unsure

Gunther, even at 65€, I still find myself thinking about this! But on the other hand, if I somehow managed to bring a BeoMaster 4000 home all the way from Struer, I would have an awesome story to tell. Wow, what a thought that is! I could bring it home from its birthplace at the factory!!! SurpriseHmmBig Smile

    I don't have a problem with the 104mHz, I don't even listen to FM...

Alright everbody, I am signing off here.

Tomorrow there will be progress, and posted! I will be completing the second speaker cloth and also adding a resistor to try and even out the bright mid-woofer problem.

I am heading over to the neighbors' for a celebratory Beer. Cheers!

Umm... I think you should've glued the fabric in the bottom of the grooves as well, as the bands aren't going to pull the fabric into them... they are purely for visual purposes, not for tightening anything. But that'll be a minor problem, I'm sure they'll still look great Smile

we didn't want to deal with the glue. It may be a price we pay but I hope your

right and they still will look Great!

Because then the way to do it is the Struer way - I'm absolutely sure we all want to have your promised birthplace factory story here to read Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

This alone would be worth givin' the BM4000 away (a functional one though; still leaving the recapping up to you for yet another story Stick out tongue)

       Gunther

BTW: Did you measure the driver in question de-soldered? You mentioned they are different in the 2 speakers?

As I only have the SM for the previous PL60.2 with the ABR's and yours / Todd's are newer ones the crossovers are different Sad

Hi Gunther, that's funny - I hope you do not object to me saying so.

Evan is using Latin when he says "quid pro quo" ... not a young person's way of talking ... actually 2,000 years old Laughing

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*
