    Re: RL60.2 Refurb Collaboration

    Evan:

Just made an interesting discovery, although I shouldn't be hugely suprised considering my above data, the speakers overall impedance is vastly different.

    Factory Spec:   8 ohm
    Good Speaker: 3.7-3.8 ohm
    Bad Speaker:   7.8 ohm

Anyone want to start a brainstorm?

Are you sure both drivers are equal ??, seams like a 4 ohm and a 8 ohm.

You should have +- 8 ohms on both, so something is wrong on the one called the "good" driver. measure again (directly on the terminals both should be the same +-) and while playing check with a finger on each cone if the vibration is the same, sound set to mono, or put in a 4 +- ohm resistor on in line to the "good" driver and listen again.

Beosound 3000, BL 4000, BL 8000, BG 2404,BG 5000, BG CD50, Beocord 5000, BM 901, BM 2400, BM 4000, BV S45, BV 3702. There is nothing we cannot do, but a lot of things we don't want to do!!

    Re: RL60.2 Refurb Collaboration

No the drivers are not equal.

The measurements you quoted there are not just the mid-woofers, but the entire speaker! I measured many times to verify and my numbers are accurate. Have a look at the table a few posts further up.

I've been thinking of adding in a resistor..

How could it change so much? What could have changed in the woofer(s)?

I think I'm going to have to sleep on it! Plus its late!! Sleep

If in doubt, try swapping drivers between the good and the bad speaker.
One at a time and see when things change.

That sounds plausible but as you know Evan's the expierienced one here; I'm trying too learn so I will point your suggestion out to him if he hasn't already checked for the latest post this morning.

    Thanks,

I was hoping no one would say that! These woofers (like every other RL), are cemented in place!!

No, just sitting a little hard with a rubber gasket, pry it out slowly and carefully, prying all around the driver basket, with a wide bladed screwdriver. Reinstalling take care not to pull the screws to hard, and all screws with the same force.

Thanks Soren. Yes, I know they aren't actually cemented in place. I feel like if I tried this I would end up damaging Todd's beautiful speakers. If it comes down to it, we may have to swap them but for now, he has decided not to.

Congratulations.  My oldest daughter is now 4 years, 9 months, and 20-odd days, which means it's been 4 years, 9 months, and 20-odd days for me.  Good luck.  I wish I could tell you that it gets easier over time, but it really doesn't.  The psychological and social triggers just never go away.
