No problem! I'm always happy to post these things. The inside was cramped and detail intensive.

I'd love to hear these. Are you going to add some kind of an internal crossover so the tweeters stay safe from low frequency power?

    Leslie:

Evan, you should call them Babyvox 2500, a new b&o baby has born. Positiv critics though, hope you don't mind. The base you're using now makes the cubes smaller. Why not using the sime dims? Where did you buy the tweeter and has it the same size as the originals. Any specs of these on the net? Keep up postingYes - thumbs up Really enjoy your thread(s) with all the pictures.

Don't mind at all. I did not fabricate the bases myself, just found a suitable substitute. The dimensions of the stand are not published, so I just went for it. Plus I do not know of any machining businesses, also on a budget.

The tweeters are not direct replacements. These are Dayton ND20FB-4 tweeters. There are many variants, one that is press fit, then front and rear mount. I chose the rear mount ver so that it would have a flush surface on the exterior. The specs aren't bad either, Freq range 3500-25000Hz, free air resonance ~2100hz, 15w rms power handling, 19mm silk dome. I got my set from Parts Express.

And to answer Mika's Q - they will be getting a filter. Hopefully I will be able to get away without putting in a notch filter in (seems like a pain). For exactly 3500+ Hz I need a 10-11uF cap. I bought a pair of these at Radioshack yesterday, they are 50v I think. Only for testing. I will probably end up having to make an external filter, I also want to include and L-pad for adjustment.

    Noted!

Re: the filter - see above. They will be connected directly to an amp so they will need some heavier caps probably. If you want to hear a set, I could always put these into production!

Check out Beovox 5000 service manual on site - it contains the schematics for at least three different old Beovoxes that had the connector for the real cubes. Apparently they all manage with a single cap in series with the cube.

(I believe the original cubes have a filter cap inside as well?)

Here they are sitting on my BeoVox 2600s. A good period setting for my brand new 2011 BeoVox 2500! Cool

@ Leslie, This is not their final resting place, they will be sitting on my massive JBLs in my monster system. Pictures coming soon.

Okay, lookng over the MK2 schematic I see one cap in front of the output socket. Its rated at 4.7uF, 12V. Yes from what i have read, I believe there is an internal cap in the 2500 but I do not know its value.

Being that I have completely different drivers, I haven't really paid much attention to original schematics/values. I've built a very different animal technically, but I'm sure it would make a great addition to someone's BeoLab 5000 system!

Have the same passion as you I guess (lots of ideas and bringing them alive).

Can you or others tell me what tweeters I have to look for regarding to ohms and frequence? The originals are 6 ohms. Saw this on a Dutch webshop. Need 12, so have to start with a cheap alternative...

Why not use cone tweeters? The disadvantage of cones is that they are more directional than domes but as you are mounting 6 in each cube, this is not a problem. A good cone can be very good in the right circumstances!

This Beoviris is great, isn't it? Wink

As you know, the originals are cone tweeters. Since you will have top-mounting, your options are pretty much whatever you prefer. The difficult part regarding impedance is that the original was 6 ohms which is going to be hard to find in a modern tweeter.

I chose silk dme tweeters because I like the way they sound, the Dayton tweeters I have bought are 4 ohms a piece. I have arranged each set of 6 tweeters to have a total impedance of 6 ohms.

THIS is where I bought my tweeters.

So Peter, if I take cones where can you find such small ones that fits in the cube. The impedance does not really matter, I can choose from 4 to 8 ohms and what about the inside cap? Sorry, but no knowledge at all regarding to speakers. Any suggestions where I could by these cones, if possibly cheap (less the 10 euro each)? Hope Frede is reading this thread and my question.
