Was the panel really beyond recovering by a pro metal polisher?

My goal is to match the top to the sides and front of the BeoMaster and BeoGram CD. After all, the only color option available on the BeoSystem 4500 is white.

Yes, unfortunately the panels are long gone.

I read elsewhere on here that some mirror panels have the flat grey factory paint finish underneath, some people were just removing the polished layer to reveal the near new factory grey finish underneath. I think this was on the 9500 mirror panels. not sure it applies to the 4500.

Thank you, first off! I'm pretty sure that what you are referring to is the BeoSystem 3500 that has a grey top coat.

I encourage you do the same Richard, if your panels are showing their age, this is a great alternative to freshen up the look.

By now the lid's first coat of paint is well dried and is ready for more.

Before it left my "library" for more paint, I used some more 400 grit sandpaper to knock down some of the imperfections and paint build up from the first session.

Here, I have elevated the lid onto a pair of found baskets from the garage. I can now spray the ultra-thin front and side edges of the metal component. Be prepared for some precision tape work!

It is hard to tell the difference, but another spraying is complete.

Here in the early evening, I am annoyed with curious insects. I must protect the finish! The lid has been moved inside the screened in porch to dry.

 

Keeping a flawless finish is getting increasingly more difficult. Little fibers seem to be attracted to the wet surface, as well as other particles. Very trying!

On the operating table: The BeoMaster 4500

Time to prepare the BeoMaster for its respray. It will be resprayed with the same paint as the lid so it will match afterwards.

Before the master is fully masked off for paint, the front and sides need to be roughed up to ensure good adhesion.

Another good reason to sand these surfaces is to remove the 20+ years of blemishes that this unit has acquired.

Once all sanding is complete, the unit needs to be wiped down with a damp wrag to remove the superfine dust before paint.

To be absolutely certain the bottom edges of the sides are well taped off, I propped up each side of the BeoMaster on an assembly manual.

Thank you, first off! I'm pretty sure that what you are referring to is the BeoSystem 3500 that has a grey top coat.

Yes -it's a grey topcoat. Painted on the polished aluminum. Not the other way around. People were removing the grey paint to get to the polished surface. It's an aluminum plate, beotexas -there's no paint underneath.

Where to put the power cord?

At first I wasn't sure about what to do with the power cord for when this unit gets painted. I had a stroke of genius and tied the cable in the socket cavity so that it could be covered when I wrap the Master.

All it took was a half mile of tape, one sheet of the sports section and a glass of iced tea.

Tomorrow morning should be the end of painting the BeoMaster and its lid. Very exciting!

I shall call it a night.

As I near assembly of the BeoMaster, I will need to select an adhesive for the operation panel bezel pieces. Any suggestions?
