The set is designed to work in just the audio mode anyway,so I imagine you could permanently disable the video sections. You will need to keep all the various panels in place however,as there is quite a sophisticated data comms and service fault sensing network in the design, which will prevent the set working if sections are disconnected. Should'nt be a problem getting a suitable replacement capacitor. It prolly won't be exactly the same value,as they don't make them now,but an equivalent will do. There will be several capacitors needing replacement by now, some of which could also cause humming. The main transformer can cause a low hum,but this is more a mechanical noise, and

Did you get my e.mail Ian? I can sort this problem for you,or I could be interested in buying the set if you do decide to scrap it! Regards, Nick

Greetings David.Try swapping the outputs on the rf amp,if the picture improves on the new set,and degrades on one of the others, the amp must be faulty? Is it a B&O rf amp? Regards, Nick p.s.How's the Beomaster 6000 these day's?

What's the problem with your Beomaster 5000 "brain box"?Maybe I can help.I have the training notes for this system, and have repaired several over the years. Regards, Nick

I need a crt pcb.The connector has disintegrated on my set. This part is long obsolete of course. The original pcb part No was 8003823.This fits the Nokia crt A51EAF00X03.Maybe someone has spare panel salvaged? Alternatively,I seem to remember that the earlier MX2000 used the same connector, although obviously the pcb is different. Thanks, Nick

I remember that those old MFB (Motional Feed Back) speakers were rather good! As the Philips speakers are active, you may be getting a ground return loop. Are they earthed? Is the Beomaster grounded say,via a turntable also? I think I've got a service manual for that speaker,I'll dig it out and check the spec. Regards, Nick

Glad you have it working. This system was introduced in 1982 to partner the Beosystem 5000 and others. They are useful kits, although the later MCL2 system was much better in terms of speed and immunity to noise etc, using a higher ir carrier frequency etc. It depends upon which resistor is burnt as to what is wrong with your box. They were pretty reliable
