Beomaster 5000 CPU module (or a complete parts unit)

I need a working CPU module (PCB 4, the big one slotted behind the front panel) for my Beomaster 5000. I can take just the module, or a complete unit for parts if it does at least something sensible, i.e turns on and displays something. Cosmetics irrelevant!

Located in Finland, will pay shipping (PayPal or EU bank transfer OK) and something we can agree on for the actual goods.

That's the 1960's Beomaster 5000. It doesn't have the CPU module.

Still an interesting ad with a very nice price for that system.

Edit: And already gone again, I see.

I couldn't understand the price, but quite honestly this is a really must have for every collector.

Especially if it is in good condition.

    Best regards

Re: Beomaster 5000 CPU module (or a complete parts unit)

    It was a set of

    Beomaster 5000
    Beolab 5000
    Beovox 3000 (on homemade stands)
    Beovox 2500 cubes

at SEK 1500 (~ 120 UK pounds) and looking very nice at that.

    This years bargain for someone.

Last chance before the skip is calling (or something completely different happens...).

Just for clarity, I do not want to buy a working Beomaster 5000 or anything else that it might come with - I don't like it that much - I want to fix this one I have already Wink

Hi Nick, thanks for the offer. The processor itself is dead. It's a 8051, which is a mask ROM version of 8031 - so really no hope of a straight repair without an original chip from another BM5000. If the program dump was available somewhere, it might be possible to burn it on an OTP or flash version of 8751 - only that the flash chips are much newer, I haven't actually looked if they are a drop-in match electrically.

I'm not going to scrap the Beomaster in any case - if I can't find the spare, I have other plans which will eventually be published on the forum Whistle

Re: Beomaster 5000 CPU module (or a complete parts unit)

I have a Beomaster 5000 that I am going to retire. It works, but after some listening tests over the weekend, I've realized that it no longer has the sound quality it once had. It also runs very hot.

I can remove the CPU (with some guidance,) if that's all you're looking for or ship the entire unit. I'll sell the MCP 5000 on Ebay as it won't work with my BM 7000 (need a MCP 5500 or 6500 if anyone has one for a reasonable price.)

Just cover the cost of shipping and packaging. UPS would be the most convenient for me and PayPal is fine for payment.

    Regards,

    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,

I'll need to give that a little thought. The problem is that we're on the different sides of the pond, and I'm sure shipping the complete Beomaster is out. Likewise, UPS for just the module might still cost more than a working machine brought to my door from German eBay... But, if you can get a good quote for it or can consider regular mail, I'm all ears. To give you some idea, the module is a little larger than a Beo4 and weighs about the same.

Have you considered having the BM serviced? Possibly it just needs new idle current trimpots Smile

    Mika,

It's not worth it to me to have it fixed, as I have a BM 7000, Overture and BM 1900 in various rooms and it just wouldn't be used.

What postal code does it need to be shipped to?

Perseverance, people! This was my second repair job that took more than six months to find a spare Smile

Thanks to Jonathan, I got a new cpu module. Now the Beomaster (I had fixed power supply and power amp issues in the meantime) lights up the standby dot, turns on via Datalink and plays quite nicely. IR is still dead as are most of the front panel keys, but I'm sure I can sort these out. Finally something to cover up the stacking marks on my CD50! Laughing
