Beocord 5000 (1979 model) and Beomaster 4500 (1991 model), sound problems.

    I have a specific problem:

When I connect the older Beocord casette player to my beomaster 4500, the tape sound is constantly playing through the left speaker at a fixed level, the volume controlling has no effect (only for the right speaker). It is connected through Tape 1 input, but the same problem arises even when connected to Aux input. And if the beocord is playing, even if I change to phono, cd, radio on the beomaster, the tape overrules the other signals (from cd, radio, vinyl) the tape-sound i still there. When I use headphones connected to the beocord, everything is OK.

What is wrong - do the beocord 5000 and beomaster not fit toghether (why not?)?

    Regards, Per-Ola

Just tried the headphones once more which does not seem to work properly either - the sound is louder in the left channel, more high tones, less bass than the right channel which is lower and more bassy.

Suddenly I works fine with headphones, nice sound in both ears, then it suddenly doesn't -  often in relation to fast forwarding/backwarding of the tape.

Sounds like a fault in the Beomaster - possibly in the DIN connection panel. Does a CD player work ok? If so, remove the two extra pins in the Beocord 5000 DIN plug, and then attach it via the CD socket and see if it works then. You will need to select CD on the Beomaster and work the tape manually. If this works ok, the problem is the socket panel, I would suggest.

Pretty nice diagnostics! When I plugged the Beocord into CD-socket, it worked fine. Then It's the beomaster. What is wrong with the tape socket, tricky to fix?

This may sound a bit stupid, but try the tape input again - once when using a 5-pin din plug in a 7-pin socket, I managed to insert the plug the wrong way and experienced similar effects.

All tips are welcome! Seems now that the problem was not quite solved. The Beocord still, while playing, suddenly changes it volume especially left channel with symptoms asdescribed above. If I press STOP, the PLAY the Beocord sound normalizes again. this happens every 3-4 minutes while playing I think, it happens when connected to both CD and Tape socket....
