The Lintronic codes are not available (as i know of), but the LinTronic box is mostly used to get the timings correct. I used it to copy alle the codes from my Denon DVD player also.

There code databases on the net, like this one, http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/codes/ and as you've seen I was wondering if one could not automatically translate these codes into Beo5 templates.

If that worked, that could be useful for more people, as not everybody has a lintronic box.

I cant see the mapping directly to Beo5 codes. Perhaps Keith can decode these numbers, but i can't map them to the codes i get out of the Lintronic box.

The Beo5 XML requires the timings in milliseconds of the ir-code. And these are not available on that site.

Re: Beo5 - where are we?

If you have a Lintronic converter box, then you can you can use the following instructions to the Lintronic software to get the timings which can then be used to convert to a Beo5 XML file as follows:-

Start the Lintronics programme and close the popup status page and if it asks you to check for updates say NO

Click PRODUCTS then move down to TT455-RT-238 then across to CODELEARN shortcut and click on it.

In the pink "CODELEARN" section in the top left click to add a tick to "COPY REMOTECONTROL"

Now using your remote use each of the commands in turn and each time it will show the timings and on the timing diagram press the button marked HIGH/LOW which will open a window with the timings of that command. Copy the list of timings into Windows Notepad making sure you state which command it is. Do this for each command..

When you do the above, if the Lintronic software knows the code it will tell you what it is.

Below is a typical example of the timing output which in this case as I am sure you have already noted is a 48 bit Panasonic command for audio. -- MSB means "Most Significant Bit" and LSB means "Least Significant Bit" -- ID1 and ID2 define the device you are transmitting too in this Panasonic 48 bit code.

As this protocol uses Pulse Position Modulation which means the width of the pulses define if it is a binary "1" or "0" and a binary "1" has a low value and a binary "0" has a high value in the table below

    Pulse, Pause in micro-seconds
03639,01578 = 5217  ----- Start bit with a high pulse of 3639 micro seconds and transition of 1578 micro seconds
    00606,00257 = 863  --- LSB of ID1
    00607,01122 = 1729
    00608,00257 = 865
    00631,00231 = 862
    00608,00256 = 864
    00606,00257 = 863
    00632,00232 = 864
    00633,00231 = 864
    00634,00231 = 865
    00608,00257 = 865
    00632,00232 = 864
    00633,00232 = 865
    00608,00257 = 865
    00607,01122 = 1729
    00608,00257 = 865
    00607,00257 = 864  ---- MSB of ID1
    00607,00257 = 864  ---- LSB of ID2
    00608,00257 = 865
    00631,00231 = 862
    00608,00256 = 864
    00607,01122 = 1729
    00633,01097 = 1730
    00607,00257 = 864
    00608,01121 = 1729
    00632,00231 = 863
    00607,00257 = 864
    00633,00232 = 865
    00633,00231 = 864
    00633,00231 = 864
    00633,00232 = 865
    00609,00257 = 866
    00632,00231 = 863 -- MSB of ID2
    00608,01121 = 1729  -- LSB of Command Code
    00633,01096 = 1729
    00633,00231 = 864
    00608,00257 = 865
    00631,01098 = 1729
    00607,01121 = 1728
    00607,00257 = 864
    00632,00233 = 865
    00631,01099 = 1730
    00631,01096 = 1727
    00633,00232 = 865
    00633,00232 = 865
    00633,00231 = 864
    00608,00257 = 865
    00632,00232 = 864
    00633,01096 = 1729  --- MSB of Command Code
    00632,65000 = 65632 --- Not part of the code

So, in the above example you get the following. HEX values are to the power of 16

ID1 is 1011 1111 1111 1011 which is equal to HEX value of oxBFFB

    ID2 is 1111 0010 1111 1111 which is equal to HEX value of oxF2FF

Command is 0011 0011 0011 1110 which is equal to HEX value of ox333E

If the IR codes you wish to convert are available at sites like the one HERE in HEX Pronto codes, then they can be converted to provide the above timing list.

So, in conclusion to this overview, you can learn from any remote using the Lintronics converter box or other decoding software of which there are several available and if you have Pronto codes available, then they can be converted to provide the needed timings.

The only thing that the above timing list does not provide is the carrier frequency which is normally between 30 and 42 Khz except B&O. The carrier frequency only exists to limit interference and increase the range of the IR signal, so if you get limited range, then the carrier frequency is incorrect. Generally I set it to 38 Khz which is the most common value used by manufacturers.

The following 3rd party XML files have been added to the Beo5 download page HERE and my thanks to Jacob (Weebyx) and Luis in Spain for their assistance for testing these additional files:-

    • Sony Playstation provided you have a Blu-Ray Dongle made by Nyko which can be found HERE
    • Apple Universal iPOD/iTouch docking station remote. This file will also control other recent Apple products which use the "Menu, Play/Pause, Up/down and left & right buttons only"
    • Logitech iPOD docking station
    • Panasonic VHS video Player

Re: Beo5 - where are we?

    Hi All,

What I'd like to know is if anyone knows about any plans to make Beo5 enable to browse my net music for example by syncing playlists or something.

Now that would really make me pay up for one of these

I have a Panasonic PlasmaTH42-PH9 connected to a Beosystem 3, since software updates on Beosystem 3 this no longer switches on/off etc at the same time as the Beosystem 3 although it used to work fine. Is it going to be possible to write a XML file to control the switching on/off instead?

Yes, it is possible, but have you tried to talk to your dealer about this not working anymore ? Is the Serial Cable connected ?

Do you have a file for controlling a AppleTV?

    Many thanks in advance.

It says Apple Macbook; but can you also control your AppleTV with it?

And how do you "fit it into" the ConfigTool?

Re: Beo5 - where are we?

There appears to be some confusion about the ability of 3rd party products to be controlled by the Beo5.

The Beo5 can control ANY, yes I mean any 3rd party product which uses an Infra-red remote control.

To be able to configure a third party product using the B&O Beo5 Configuration tool you need to first produce an XML file which contains all the commands and the associated infra-red codes for each product. I have produced some already which are available for download and you can read full details HERE

Jacob (Weebyx) and myself have developed a product to allow the automatic production of these XML files and an announcement will be made about this in the next couple of days.

With regards to the Plasma radiation issue highlight which limits or stops some IR transmissions, this is not related to the Beo5, but is a general problem for which there are several solutions. I will highlight this further in another thread.

The bottomline is, if you know the infra-red codes for your product or you have a facility to capture these codes from the remote such as using the Lintronic box, then an XML file can be produced to control that product with the Beo5.
