Fairly vintage speaker and sound it to be fair. But they sell on Ebay and with the right system make a very nice period piece. I have a pair!

I have a pair of BeoVox 5000's in my front room. I have had them from new, and they are good given their age etc.

Several people have asked me if I would consider selling them, the answer was no

Whilst physically a little large compared with todays active speaker range, they fit well into my environment.

Vince, you say that reviews around the web seem to rubbish them, but in their day they were leading edge and still quite acceptable today.

    Hi Vince,

Allthough I don't agree on the rubish part, they are almost vintage speakers are they not ? but also very good in those days ! I own a pair of those in blue cloth and won't sell them for they look georgous on the wall in our bedroom, despite their size.

have fun with them and enjoy the reactions of your visitors !

Different model! The ones we are talking about came with the Beolab 5000 system of the 60s and early 70s and are big boxes on legs. There are three different models with a variety of drivers - the ones mentioned are the last in the line. They were designed to go with the Beolab 5000 amplifier and cube speakers.

The wall mounted panels are different and sound much more modern.

The panels certainly have an enthusiastic following! I don't have 5000s but do have a pair of 3000s. Not as good having heard Darren's but not dissimilar.

They are reasonable speaker, but they don't fetch all that much on EBAY, I would expect it has something to do with shipping costs.

Someday I'm going to replace the electrolytic capacitors in one set of mine and compare them against the unmolested pair.

I've got most of the others of that range, and in some ways the Beovox 4000 are better in my humble opinion.

I still can't get around the B&O blurb that said the Beovox 3000 were a 'more compact' speaker, compared to the 5000 they are more 'compact' but this isn't really a word I'd use to describe them.

    Re: beovox 5000 type 6223

I recently found a pair of BeoVox 5000's (1st generation Teak) in almost perfect condition.

I love the look of them and the sound is quite good as well.

Does anyone know where I can get a pair of the 2500's. It seems that they are next to impossible to find (in good shape) and when they are avail. the price is quite high.

Is there an alternative product that would help out inthe same way?

They come up pretty regularly - usually expensive. They don't add massively to the sound though - they broaden the stereo image a bit - but they do look nice! Patience - took me a couple of years to find mine!!

If you feel lucky then you can upgrade your membership to Gold and take a chance (roughly 470:1) of winning a pair in Mint Condition - see here

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

There is a pair for sale at http://www.beocollectors.com

A bit expensive for me, but sometimes I have seen their price reaching more than £1,000! Huh?

    Re: beovox 5000 type 6223

I am still trying to find the right combination (style and sound) with the Beovox 5000.

(Teak is now fully restored using antic grade steel wool and teak oil, all in all it took less than three hours)

Although sound quality is important, style and functionality are also what is deciding things for me.

Getting a completely restored Beolab 5000 from Frede Kristensen has been a thought, unfortunately some sort of remote capabilities will be required in my household.

Apart from the genaration gap, are there any technical issues with hooking these speakers up to a Beomaster 6500 or 7000?

I am searching the web and have found a few good examples of both although white is somewhat harder to find (especially the 7000).

Which ones do you have? The problem with them in my opinion, is that they do have a slight vintage sound. The Beovox M100 is quite a bit better for instance. There is no reason that you cannot use them with a Beomaster 7000 though as they can certainly handle the power - which is unusual for a speaker of this vintage.

Very nice! I had a 3rd generation one with dome tweeters but I always wanted the first generation! The cone tweeters are lovely little drive units and are very sweet sounding. I think they are better than the later domes.

    Re: beovox 5000 type 6223

Hi Peter and anyone else listening.

I just installed a Beosystem 7000 (my first B&O system) that I sourced locally. There was a white unit (6500) at Lifestyle in the UK, however the price difference for a white unit as well as shipping charges to Switzerland  was a bit to high for me.

I think that I may have a problem; the unit was supplied with a Beolink 1000 and so far I have not been able to program radio stations or even search for them. All I can do is tune in the ones that were set up in the shop.

I don't have an instruction manual, but I should receive one in a few days (weeks). I managed to download the 6500 user guide from B&O however it only mentions the Beolink 7000 (pricey)

Also the RDS does not seem to be working.

What also concerns me is the date on the back of the units (1987) I thought that the 7000 series was manufactured only after '92.

If you or anyone can help, it would be much appreciated

By the way, other than listening is there any way to really tell if the speakers are hooked up correctly (+-)

my Beovox 5000 only had bare wires and no colors to indicate + and -

    Thanks

    Re: beovox 5000 type 6223

I am still thinkng about adding a pair of the 2500 cubes to my system.

Is it tru that when they are connected, the tweeters on the 5000's are bye passed?

If this is true it seems to be a shame to  have all these tweeters not doing anything; does anyone know if there is a way to conect the 2500's independantly and then have all tweeters on the 5000's and 2500' s working?

You can just connect them to Speaker 2. There is a big capacitor in them to act as a filter for the lower frequencies. Try playing them by themselves and you will be shocked by how little information there is sent to them!

    Re: beovox 5000 type 6223

    Hi Peter,

thanks for the help, have you ever tried them set up this way?

I guess that the sound would be similar to the Bose Acoustimass 5 units without the sub running.

I have but not with Beovox 5000s. I have always plugged them in the back of them. I have used them with Redline speakers though and they were most impressive! Very useful for widening the soundstage. Quite bizarre in some ways as when you switch off the main speakers, the sound from the 2500s is hardly audible but switching the 2500s off when playing the other speakers is very noticeable!
