When will BeoVision 7-40 come with LED backlight? Any rumors?
Or put in another way: How long can B&O continue sell a TV of the BV7 class with just a light bulb backlight? We are in 2010.
One doubt: Does LED backlight really make a huge positive difference?

Absolutely, the black level is way better, black is really black and not dark grey, also the contrast is much better. I used to have a BV 7-40 MKIII and own now a 7-55 (with led ofcourse) and the picture improvement is noticeble.

OK, then we have to wait for a BV7-40 with LED backlight, or better for a BV7-46 with backlight and internal harddisk (my wish for christmas!).

I ask myself this question every morning when I check the specs on the BV7-40 at the B&O website to see if they have changed it yet. This is now the only thing holding me back from making my purchase. I've been leaning toward the BV10 lately as a result, but I still prefer the higher stance of the BV7 next to my BeoLab 8000 speakers and BeoSound 9000.
BeoVision 7-55 3D, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound 8, BeoLab 7-6, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, LC-1, BeoTime (analog clock), Form 1 headphones, Beo 4 remote.

My guess this will be a year if the MKV has just been released. I was thinking of upgrading to the BV10-46, but then parts of this TV will be a downgrade from the BV7-40 (especially the sound).
Mind you, comparing a BV10-46 and BV7-40 recently, which were side-by-side, I didn't notice much difference when viewing the same HD image on both TVs.

I think the picture of the BV10 is outstanding - but the sound is poor compared to the BV7. I'd wait.

Re: LED BeoVision 7-40 when?
This raises another issue in the B&O range: how can a top-of-the-line TV like BV7 be less advanced than the newer BV10, which is positionned between BV7 and BV8? I could understand why they don't upgrade the BV8, but why oh why keeping BV7 so "unchanged"? And I'm not even talking about the 32 inch version..
Reunion Island is greeting you!

Re: LED BeoVision 7-40 when?
I recently had a look at the 46in Samsung 3D tv and have got to be honest i was very impressed by the quality of the 3d. Having seen Avatar in 3D at the cinema i could have left it as a technology. Then there is the mute point of paying £2000 for a 46in Samsung with LED LCD 200hz technology which i personally believe is the better technology, or £4500 on a Beovision 8-40 with standard LCD and 100hz technology! Yes the sound will be better but for £2500 i should hope it is.
I believe a 42inch 7 with LED LCD in 200hz would probably make it for me, the best television in the world. A Beovision 8-40 with again LED LCD would again keep it up to date and worth the money.
This is a Cider induced "i actually have a day off" rant so apologies for the spelling etc
A Beovision 10-40 in black and red fret on order, Beo4, Beo6, many A8's, a pair of white and yellow Form 2's, Beocom 4, 28 inch Avant RF DVD, Apple TV and a wife that loves this stuff as much as i do!

BeoVision 7-40" Mk V, when?
Citat: beobrian from B & O writes: BeoVision 7-40" MK V is already available in DK, so order a BeoVision 7-40 will be MK V you get delivered.
The only upgrade here is the panel that has been 200Hz and higher contrast level. We always change the version when major hardware changes are made, such as panel changes.
You can not get a Direct LED 40 "panel, it does not exist, so therefore it can not yet established in BeoVision 7-40. So this update is because there has been a better panel from the subcontractor, and which so far has been spent, is now discontinued and no longer can be delivered. So it's just a switch so the model can continue. There'll be announced when there are major changes in an update.

If there are no 40" Direct LED Panels, then use 40" LED Edge-lit Panels
If there are no 40" direct LED panels in existence from the manufacturer, then B&O should consider using the same edge-lit panel from the BeoVision 10-40. This will save money in production cost and give the BV7-40 the badly needed technology boost away from CCFT backlighting. B&O can even go a little further and reduce the profile of the BV7 with an updated slimmer back panel cover. I would definitely purchase that!
BeoVision 7-55 3D, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound 8, BeoLab 7-6, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, LC-1, BeoTime (analog clock), Form 1 headphones, Beo 4 remote.

I'm sure they thought of that, but I guess that panel either doesn't fit or is regarded by B&O as not being of the quality required?
I don't know what all the fuss about: my Jan 2010 BV7-40 has a superb panel and I've seen a side-by-side comparison against the BV10-46. You'd have to look very hard to see any difference.
Are you sure you're not just asking for this technology for the sake of it? I can't believe the BV7-40 MKV picture quality is superseded by that of the BV10-40.

For your information (and Chris too...), the BV8 40 has been updated, there is a new panel, 200Hz refresh rate, and... 3 HDMI!

Wow... What a "Technology boost"... From a superb picture quality to a clouded image with non uniform backlighting! Edge Backlighting has absolutely NO advantage on picture quality over CCFL. The only things that are better are power consumption, and thinness, and of course it's less expensive to make. And B&O has never modified the design of a TV from MkX to MkX+1, so don't expect a thinner BV7... That would be a totally new TV, like the move from BV5 to BV9.

Yes mbee
It is quite true. BV 10 is a B & O "low" price of the TV.

Cheaper panel doesn't mean that the company HAS to sell it at low price... One of edge lit LED advantage is thinness, and people are ready to pay for thinness... If LED panels where more expensive to produce, I think that Samsung wouldn't have made a so huge advertising campaign to outdate CCFL... Follow your eyes, not the marketing hype (latest LCD panels can produce outstanding contrast ratio, whatever backlighting tech is behind it, LED edge or CCFL doesn't really make a difference, it's only full LED backlighting that has a positive effect on PQ)

Not correct.
Unless I am misreading the specification, the Sharp LC40LE600 has full LED backlighting for only £640.
