    Hi,

I appreciate that B & O obtain their LCD Panels from Samsung.

My point is that edge lit LED panels are prone to uneven backlighting issues.

In a TV of the price of the BV7,one would expect B & O to source the best available LCD panel, which might not necessarily be one from Samsung.

    BeoVision 7-40" LED, when ?

    TerryM

I not think that B & O runs from their cooperation agreement with Samsung.

Samsung creates image panels for BV.7 after a B & O concept is adapted
B & O's BeoSystem 3 three drove engine. BeoSystem 3 together with genuine
LED backlight technology is why BeoVision 7-55 offers a super beautiful images,
an image quality as BV.10 never achieve without BeoSystem 3 image engine.

Top EU version. Bottom US version.

    TerryM:

    Not correct.

Unless I am misreading the specification, the Sharp LC40LE600 has full LED backlighting for only £640.

    Review is available at

    http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/tvs/sharp-aquos-le600-lc40le600e-review-49303787/

... the very same review also says:

"The lack of 100Hz processing is felt in the LC40LE600E's picture performance.
Motion reproduction lacks the clarity and sharpness witnessed on a growing number
of LCD and plasma TVs these days."

The quality of a picture can't be measured/compared in citing a few tech specs!

The overall picture quality of a BV7-40Mk5 with "old fashioned" CCFL backlight and
200/240Hz is still better than that of a BV 10-40  200/240Hz and LED-Edgelight.

BV7-40Mk5 is seconded only by theBV 7-55 with local dimming but "poor"
100/120Hz refresh rate ... (and some skillfully employed advanced techniques)

    Hi Peter,

I can see the top BS3 configuration of ports appearing in the BV7.

Where does the bottom BS3 get used ? (you have labelled it "component")

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

You're referring to the update of the BV8-40, correct?  That is, the spec sheet that you indicate is wrong in your previous post applies to the EU, not the US, correct?  I've seen a BV8-40 with 3 HDMI, but it was in the US.  Don't know if it was 200MHz screen, but it did have a very nice picture.  We had to wait ~2 years for this TV (it has just been introduced in the States) so it's nice to be ahead of the EU for once Big Smile

BV 8-40: EU version has not been updated yet - still 100/120Hz and 2HDMI
(not 200/240Hz and 3HDMI as already stated on B&O homepage)
... it's planned "but not for the next ?months/?weeks"

lower picture shows "component" US version

Has anyone actually critically viewed a BV10 and a BV7-40 side by side? The BV7-40 is significantly better. Watch a film where there are dark scenes and the difference will jump out at you. The BV10 looks great for an edge-lit, but it can't achieve the same PQ as a back-lit, even a ccfl backlight.

I can understand waiting for an LED back-lit BV7-40, but putting an edge-lit panel in just because it's "newer" is silly.

There is scarcely anything in this world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey. - John Ruskin

Which is exactly what I've been saying. People complaining about not having "the latest panel" is an argument not worth having when the BV7-40 MKV has a superb picture.

Re: BeoVision 7-40" Mk V, when?

Nowadays, people just listen to marketing hype, and want the latest panel, not the best picture quality... They want to be able to say "I have the 2010.X.Y.3D-extrathin panel", without actually turning the TV ON!

Edge LED backlighting suffers from non uniformity issues, and first generation of full LED backlighting offers a better contrast than CCFL, but as soon as you really start to watch a movie, you can see that the low quantity of LED behind the panel creates new issues such as details disappearing on dark scenes... And we didn't talk about 3D, which offers a cool gadget feature, but darkens the image a lot, so that you can't see details on dark scenes (but with 3D glasses at least you can't see your clouding issues anymore!!)...

Re: BeoVision 7-40" Mk V, when?

The reason for my earlier post was not to compare an entry level Sharp against a BV7,which would have been ludicrous, but to indicate that a superior form of LED backlighting was available in a 40" Panel.

Edge lit LED Panels are susceptible to clouding issues,as evidenced by reports of variability in the BV10-40 TVs.

As for the superb PQ of the BV7-40,anything less in a TV incorporating a £3-4000 AV Processor would be inexcusable.

    mbee:

For your information (and Chris too...), the BV8 40 has been updated, there is a new panel, 200Hz refresh rate, and... 3 HDMI!

Here are the new tech specs :

yesterday I've informed B&O about the "misleading specs" issue on their BV 8-40 (EU) site
    - today this has been straightened out ...

Wow! That's the first time B&O has a quick response time to a customer advice Big Smile

(it seem that they can be very quick if we ask them to DOWNGRADE the spec sheet... upgrading usually takes years!)

    Cool
