1993 Polo 1.0 - Four Men dressed as Nurses. Yes - it's the MANBULANCE !!! One lady walked past, and they all looked at her... When she said 'what?' - they all said "you look a bit peaky - and we prescribe you.. a HUG !!" Brilliant

Now - this one had me in tears with laughter. A car (i think a Nissan) pulls up, and quick as a flash four Zulu's jump out and start shaking shields and waggling spears. Honestly - i cried!

I had to look twice to take in what i was seeing on this one. You saw the car with the BBQ on the back yesterday - but not the occupants. Well - here they are. This guy wore a 'Bhorat Mankini' ALL DAY in the rain and cold! He even wore it in the Service Station at Reims, and i've never seen so many members of the public burst out laughing..

Re: 9 LEE : THE RAMSHACKLE RALLY !!
We're away! As we leave, we are given our route and tasks for the day. The Task Sheet is entitled 'Sticky Banger Madness' - and we have to head for the Porte de Mars in Reims. Simple task.. but... we have to do the 'Mentos/Diet Coke' experiment - ON THE ROOF OF OUR CAR !!!! To add even more difficulty - the 'fountain' had to be the height of the bottle, or more to qualify as a successful 'experiment'
At least one of our bangers tyres must be in view, and NO person or part of a person is allowed. A successful photo get 200 points, and there are two bonus items of 50 points each if you find a fire hydrant number 506 and an ornate pole (looked Chinese)... Well - here's the photo - we did the 'explosion' on the roof of the car (it's raining so it'll get washed off) and set off to look for the bonus items.

Re: 9 LEE : THE RAMSHACKLE RALLY !!
Well - we found the hydrant, and we were looking for what we though might be a chinese restaurant as the pole looked very oriental. So - Martin shouts 'oh - look - a chinese restaurant!' - So, we stopped, and in my best French i asked if the lady knew where this may be whilst showing her the picture. In French, she replied that they had undergone a refit two weeks ago and that actual pole was outside her restaurant but was now in her house!! A large 'whoops' for the organisers, who obviously took the photo months ago.. so we take a oicture of the front of the restaurant and head on to our final Day 1 destination 400 miles away in Annecy. The car is doing well, but the rain is torrential and the fur is suffering..

Judging by the bottles on the kerb, it took you a few goes to get the shot right!

Poor old Uncle Bulgaria. We can't do any 'running repairs' as you cant glue wet fur back to wet bodywork!! The Times Newspaper that was glued to the wheels has gone too...
He's holding up well considering he's just done 500+ miles in the pouring rain at 80mph though..

Re: 9 LEE : THE RAMSHACKLE RALLY !!
So - we arrive in Annecy.... 3 miles outside Annecy, we all looked at each other when Gordon hit the brakes. GRRRAAAAUUUUNCH... the pads are gone, down to metal. We have a drive through the alps tomorrow with mountain roads. "Okay - i can do this" i said.. "just use the gearbox and the handbrake"... So - we try the handbrake. Nothing. So, we try the gearbox, and the already almost-dead clutch starts to stink... the clutch said "NON".. Right - Fast Fit Centre tomorrow morning... Off to registration now to hand our sheet in and have a beer. Tomorrow is another day, and the brakes can wait - beer can't..... See you all tomorrow - and if you haven't sponsored us - please do. Thank you to all that have sponsored so far, and thank you for your generosity. It's a great cause, and hopefully you are enjoying this thread. Salut !!! Lee & The Womble Team.

Martin says to Alex 'don't be so ****** cheeky' Tomorow it's a drive from Annecy to San Remo, Italy - so let's see what's in store! Tomorrow morning we have the Womble-Mobile booked in for new brake pads at 8am, so we will be officially 'late starters' - but never mind - we will keep the photos coming. It would be nice if we had more comments as it looks like nobody cares! Up to you guys... BeoWorld.org - Team Womble

Re: 9 LEE : THE RAMSHACKLE RALLY !!
I think the lack of comments is more to do with the holidays - most people seem to be away in Spain or Italy at the moment (god knows why). I'll be seeing if I can make a contribution tomorrow (later today)!

No doubt you will be doubling the value of the car!! Feeling slightly tender myself as just had new shocks and some gearbox work done on the Triumph and paid nearly £1000!

Re: 9 LEE : THE RAMSHACKLE RALLY !!
Well - we've dropped off Uncle Bulgaria for his new brake pads on the front... The local 'Speedy' is the place, and they have Speedily had our trousers down i think..
152 Euro's 'fitted' - just for brake pads!!! In half an hour we go back to collect him, and for that price i expect the car to have had a shampoo and haircut !!!! Then, we're off to San Remo! We also found out from one of the organisers last night that todays task is to buy ten items... which must total less than one Euro. Bonus points for how much change you have from one Euro after you have bought your ten items, and all items must be totally different. Wish us luck !!! Speak later... Lee

Re: 9 LEE : THE RAMSHACKLE RALLY !!
Shame on you Lee! It takes me eight minutes, each side, to change the front pads on my Corsa, and costs me about £11. Should have got a Haynes manual!! Have a great day today and I look forward to reading your day's exploits this evening. We're all right behind you!

Re: 9 LEE : THE RAMSHACKLE RALLY !!
Glad to see you three are having fun! LOVE the pictures, Lee - keep them up!! I'm still officially gutted to be stuck behind the desk while you're clearly having a brilliant time! I told you it would rain by the way! Haha! I also predicted that the brakes would give out.... "They'll be fine", was Lee's response! Keep it going lads, I'll be on the next flight out to Nice to meet you in Monaco.... P.S. Lee, your car is out of diesel, and Gordon, yours is in a ditch somewhere in Surrey
Muchos Gracias

Re: 9 LEE : THE RAMSHACKLE RALLY !!
Well – what a day today has been.. I posted this morning that we were getting the brakes fixed. Well, not quite accurate.. We turned up to find that nothing had been done to the car as they had decided the discs needed replacing.. at 300 Euros.. The discs looked okay to me, so I was a bit puzzled.. Disaster.. So, we jumped back in Uncle Bulgaria and set off in search of a garage. Already 2 hours behind schedule for the meeting point, we were naturally a bit miffed. We then chanced upon a garage displaying a ‘Ford’ sign, and triumphantly pulled in – congratulating each other on our garage finding prowess. However, they didn’t have any pads in stock, and the mechanic looked like he hadn’t had any Ford training since 1971 !! Round the back though was a scrap yard – heaven! In there was a 1997 Granada 2.0 !!! Success. Okay – let’s fit some secondhand pads, and let’s get the jack out of our Mondeo and take the wheel off. Problem. No jack, no wheel brace. Nothing. The car was checked over before we left and our mechanic never spotted it. Gah! So, in my best French – I asked for a wheel brace and jack which I was duly lent. Jack up the car, undo bolt number 1, number 2, number 3, number 4…. Number 4…. Disaster, The last wheel bolt had been cross threaded / rounded and the nut was just spinning in it’s hole. Martin (ex-mechanic) was convinced that it had been done by Speedy with an air-ratchet.. Now THAT’S why they didn’t want to work on the car.. So, we’re basically stuffed. No front brakes and no hope of ever fitting them.. Now – where’s the british daring and spirit of adventure? We have a handbrake, a gearbox, and if need be we can stamp on the brakes and stop if we have to – albeit to the sound of metal on metal. Let’s go, let’s avoid the alps and take the gentle motorway route, keep the speed down and our distance from other cars. We’re off to the start point. Let’s Ramshackle – DAY TWO !!!
