    Beocom 6000

Hi, I have a Beocom 6000 which has gone faulty, saying there is no signal on the line when other phones work fine.  I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting but with no luck.  Has anybody out there any ideas or advice? Thanks, Tony (UK)

Which version of Beocom 6000 do you have ? At the left of the dial is there a black DOT on the key or the words INT ? A Mark I has the black DOT and a Mark II has the letters INT

I had that exact problem last week..... unplugging the base station from the mains and reregistering the handset worked for me.

    Tony,

You answer means that you have a Mark I phone and I also assume that you have unplugged the base from the power and re-connected it given your following answer. If you have done this and just need to re-register the phones then your handset properly says NOT REGISTERED in the display.

When you take your handset off the base press the centre button between the two brass lugs down for 3 seconds with a small pointed tool, then light on the base will start flashing. Now press the handset key on the right of the dial and the display will say REGISTER BASE ? then press OK (centre of dial)

It will now search and when it finds a base it will come back with an address in the format 36-000077XXXXXX then press OK again and it will say registering.

If it comes back and says ENTER PIN then put the default 1111 followed by OK

    Regards Keith....

Hi Keith, My handset display just says NO SIGNAL, when I press the button between the lugs yes the base light starts flashing, but the display doesn't change or offer any other message.  Any further thoughts??Tony

    Re: Beocom 6000

    Tony,

If your handset says NO SIGNAL then the radio signal between the base and the handset is lost. I am assuming that you are in range of the base station, so the problem will be the RF chip on the PCB in the phone. This means the pcb would need to be replaced.

Are you a technical person who (with instruction) could do basic board replacement ?

Are you located in the UK ?

    Regards Keith....

Hi Keith, I'm not particularly technical, but I have a friend who is, so between us we could probably sort it if you are able to give me some instructions and tell me where to source the pcb. Many thanks, Tony

    Re: Beocom 6000

    Keith,

Hi i've got a Beocom 6000 Mark 1 with one base and two handsets one of the handsets has started to show No Signal and when you can get a signal there is interference. Reading the Thread above it sounds like the RF Chip may need to be replaced, do you happen to know how easy this is to do and if it is difficult is there somebody I could send the handset to ?

    Many thanks for your help

    Matt

    Matt,

    Welcome to Beoworld..

You can no longer obtain the RF chips for the Mark I Beocom 6000, however a Mark I Beocom 6000 can be upgraded to a Mark II except the upgraded version does not have the earset socket, and still works on a Mark I charger. The kit to do the upgrade is about £50 per phone. Let me know if you want to have your phones upgraded and I will give you more details.

    Regards Keith....

    Re: Beocom 6000

    Hi Keith,

Thanks for this, if you think the upgrade kit will fix the problem with the handset not picking up a signal then yes I would like to hear more details, I assume the upgraded handset will still work with my Mark 1 base ?

Is the kit easy to fit or is it best to get a specialist to do it ?

     tks

     Matt

Not difficult at all. Just screws and a few leads to plug in.

Most difficult bit is getting the case apart!!!

Keith can give instruction on this as he did for me. Worked a treat.

    Regards Graham

    Matt,

Assuming that you are happy to take the Beocom 6000 phones apart, then you can purchase an upgrade kit part number 3455103 which consists of a new board and display, new front panel and two connecting pieces. Most dealers do not know about these kits, hence why you will need the part number. In fact everything you can see below is in teh kit:-

    Upgrade Kit

You will also need a tool to open the unit, but with considerable care it can be opened with other tools. There are NO instructions with the kit except for a message to say that all parts must be used. The reason it says this is because some people may not used the two items in the plastic bags which look like a piece of cut off black and white plastic, but they are actually made of rubber with metal conductors inside and MUST replace the existing ones.

If you feel you cannot perform this upgrade and you are in teh UK then please PM me.

    Regards Keith....

    hi,

could you expand on the "technique" for opening the 6000 case?

    (i.e.) after screws are out...

where is best place to slide the cards, what to avoid, etc... any pics?

    thanks in advance,

Assuming you do not have the correct tool, then a thin screwdriver will do it with considerable care.

After you have removed the two screws and battery you will need to unlatch the clips either side just at the top of the battery compartment. The case will only lift a couple of mm each side at this stage. Then about you will need to unclip either side about 2.5 cm from the top.

    keith,

thx for the expedient answer. i will try this evening.

on another note, (i posted this elsewhere) i believe i ended up w/ a "european" 6000 in an ebay transaction.
is there a difference between euro phones and usa phones? can i make this a usa phone w/ a software change? -or are there any "mechanical" differences prohibiting this?

    again, thanks!

    Re: Beocom 6000

When I talk about the Beocom 6000, it is not the same as what is sold in the US.

The US & Canadian versions are called Beocom 1 and are basically the same from a user viewpoint, but the software and base power supply etc are different.

To determine the version you have, I would look at the label underneath the battery, in particular the 4 digit "Type" number. A US Beocom 1 is type number "0842" and there is a different type number for almost ever European country because of Language, phone line type and power etc.

You may already know this information because of the Power plug type on the associated charger because European, US and British power plugs are all different.

    Regards Keith....
