Hi Ziggy, if you hear a loud click** when the arm is expected to lower, then it is just dried lube on the mechanism. Fairly straight forward for the mechanically minded requiring partial strip and re-applying a good quality lube such as singer oil - there are lots of posts on this common issue to help...
