  • Re: Low output - left channel on 5005

Hi Graham, I don't have another cartridge to try, that's why I made the suggestion that I would send mine to anyone who wanted to try it. Of course I could also have asked if anyone wanted to send a known good cartidge to try, but felt that a little cheeky given that I haven't been a member for all that long. Are you offering ?

  • Low output - left channel on 5005

I'm clogging up the forum with questions it seems. Last one on this Beogram I hope. My Beogram 5005 is down in sound drastically on the left channel. From other searches it has been suggested that perhaps the muting switch is at fault, given that when the arm is initially lifting from the record surface, the left channel momentarily goes to normal

  • Re: Beogram 5005 right channel output lower than left

Here's a couple of images of the switch pulled apart. It is not that difficult to dismantle, or reassemble. It would be great if there is a tech person out there who can confirm my thoughts on the removal of the switch, ie if the switch is removed, the muting circuit does no longer operate, but all else should work fine. Thanks, I look forward to

Okay, I give in on making the switch operate. Could someone please show me which wires to bridge to cut the muting switch out of the circuit. Looking at the wiring diagram, it seems to me that if the switch is out of the picture, then there is nothing to impede the signal - is that correct ? The switch appears to operate in such a way that when in "

thanks tournedos, I've sent you an email. I need to be advised on the best/correct way to remove the old switch from the PCB and next jump which terminals on the PCB. Thanks. UPDATE : I've now doused the muting switch with contact cleaner, then tested between the terminals suggested in the service manual. Switch depressed - 0 ohms, no change

  • Re: Beogram 5005 right channel output lower than left

Well, actually my 5005 is lower on the left than the right. Please read my previous post, I'm becoming confused about what and how to check. I'd sure appreciate some guidance/assistance/help. Thanks.

  • Re: Beogram 5005 right channel output lower than left

I made an attempt to " bypass " the switch, inasmuch as I have tried the unit with the switch fully depressed. No joy - there was no sound from either channel. With the switch in the out position, the right channel working well, the left barely audible, back where I was. When the arm lowers to the surface, momentarily the left channel will

  • Re: 5005 - noisy motor, ticking sound

Thanks Chris, I've located the switch, on mine it has a black plastic housing, metal cover and a square shaft with white plastic top. The white top is activated by another rod. The resistance measured between sides when the switch is fully open is 759ohms by the top pair and .2ohms on the bottom pair. When the switch is fully depressed there is

Merry Xmas Chris, Where is the muting switch critter located in the chassis - what earthly form does it take ? I have no idea what I'm looking for really. Updated my membership status to Silver and downloaded the manuals, still no joy for a beginner such as myself. Where are the lavish illustrations, step by step instructions There is a page which

Thanks Chris, Haven't heard back from Martin as yet, given the time of year etc..... I also have a muting switch thing happening, so require one of them also. Meanwhile I shall content myself with playing CDs and wondering how I might bring the 5000 Beocord back from the dead. Merry Xmas
