  • Re: Dave Moulton does it again

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Jazz! I'll keep plugging! Best regards, and season's greetings!!! Dave

  • Re: BeoLab 5 and a "phantom centre" channel

A BeoLab 9 should work quite well as a center channel among BL5s, so long as you don't let the levels get too high! By the way, any and all of you (not necessarily at once!) are welcome to visit me, even watch a movie or listen to music. So, when you are stateside shopping, just give me a call (US# 978-448-6828) and we can try to set something up

  • Re: BeoLab 5 and a "phantom centre" channel

Soundproof's thoughts are quite interesting, and mostly valid, I think. However, I've just fitted a very high-performance HD projection system into my studio, and have been quite actively studying both film and broadcast audio in both stereo and surround, using five BeoLab 5s (I send the LFE channel signal equally to all five BL5s). This is

  • Re: Beolab 9 Speakers

Very little in life is perfect, and of course the calibration could be improved - within reason. It is important to understand what the calibration does and does not do, and how that relates to room acoustics. Simplifying greatly, the calibration system generates an array of signals between about 12 Hz. and 300 Hz. to excite the room. The test mic at

  • Re: Beolab 9 as studio monitors

Aw shucks, guys! Thanks for your kind thoughts. The BeoLab 9 is evolved from a "studio monitor" design project that was shelved late in the game for a variety of valid business reasons. The current design form of the BL9 is quite different from the studio monitor prototype (which was a "pure" industrial strength studio monitor shape

  • Re: Beolab 9 Speakers

Dear BeoWorlders, I'm afraid there is a slight misunderstanding regarding my opinion about BeoLab 5s, room size and placement near to walls. In fact, I believe that ALL free-standing loudspeakers benefit from being a meter or more out into the room. This includes BL5s, of course, but is not a special consideration for them. In fact, I've found

  • Re: Beolab 8000 or Beolab 9 - with B7

I would strongly recommend the BL9 in this case. There is a LOT of good engineering in it and it offers superb and blanced performance, if not the power and room correction of the BL5. I feel it is a significant step forward from the BL8000. I hope this helps.

  • Re: Any thoughts on the Beosound 1?

I own two BeoSound 1s, and like them a great deal. More importantly, I use them as one of several test systems to evaluate recordings I've mastered. Within the genre of "portable music playbck system," the BeoSound 1 performs excellently. One of mine is placed in a medium sized sunroom, and the other is used on a window sill to play to
