    Beomaster 1200 audible buzzing...

    Hello all,

I've recently taken the plunge into the vintage B&O world with a slightly unloved Beomaster 1200 off eBay – she's missing her tuning slider but has all her other sliders and still powers up and bring life to my Beogram 1000 and RL1000s. I'd like to get her in tip-top condition but the big problem is that there is a definite audible buzz (not a hum but a buzz) coming from what seems like the right-hand of the amp from the moment I power on.

I'm a novice when it comes to electronics but am eager to learn!

If anyone can help I'd be very greatful

    Smile

Replace capacitors and trimmers (and readjust) in the power supply and amplifier.

If the sound is coming from the BeoMaster itself and not from the speakers, it might be the transformer which is humming.

That's correct. And that again could be caused by a fault in the transformer itself or
it could be a sign of struggle to keep up with a too high idle current caused by bad trimmers
in the amplifiers and/or bad capacitors in the power supply.

Agreed, but I have had two 1200's in which it was just the transformer. If a transfomer itself is humming it can in some cases be cured bijusing plastic spray on the transformer, but since this transformer is potted with potting mass plastic spray won't cure it. In that case only another transformer could help......

Thankyou for your replies - it certainly sounds like it may be beyond my novice skills to repair at the moment  Laughing! I love the design of it though so it will just have to stay where it is and look pretty for the time being!
