I am not sure if this answers your question, but I have my Beosound 5 connected to an Airport Express.

Yes,
I use a D-Link USB Wifi adapter. Simply rip your installation CD/drivers to a pendrive, go to maintenance mode (add mouse and Keyboard where needed), in XP, install software like any other PC, then install hardware. Log in your routers code and simples!. Reboot/Exit maintenance mode and it should all work automatically.

With Airport Express all I had to do was connect it.

Correct. I can load music on to it wirelessly using both Beoconnect on my iMac and using Beoplayer on a Windows laptop. N. Radio works. Also can stream music from it to iPad and use iPad to control the Beosound with the most recent software update. In other words, all works just as it should.

I plugged the Airport Express into an electrical outlet and the cable that came with the Airport Express plugs int the Beomaster. Did not need to buy anything other than the Airport Express.

Sorry. My mistake about the cable. It is an ethernet cab the from the Airport Express to the ethernet cable connection on the Beomaster.

I also use Apple to connect my BM5. I use an Airport Extreme so I can direct connect for big transfers (the Extreme has multiple ethernet ports) - although I haven't really used this much (I did use it when I transferred my main library). Airport Express can be used with non-Apple wireless routers, but I forget whether or not it was easy to setup (a few years ago, I had a link-sys router, and I did have it working with an AE, but I don't remember if it was as easy as plug-in and it works).
Any wireless bridge will work - you can find them for ~1/2 the cost of an Airport Express, but since the AE is only ~$100, that's not a huge amount of money. BM5 thinks it is directly connected to Ethernet (because it is). Wireless is provided by the bridge.
Assuming you don't mind the extra box (and have an open power outlet), this is superior to using a wifi usb plug because the BM5 can go into standby mode. I believe I read that with the usb wifi the BM5 must stay powered on.

I once setup ours up as a bridge with a NETGEAR wireless/modem/router; if you have a Mac you use its Airport Utility to configure so you can name the port ("lounge" etc) and secure it with a password
First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*
