Haven't been here for a while as all my B&O gear has been working flawlessly - until now!

my beogram 9500 no longer detects 45 size records - it will always lower the arm at the LP position and will not change to "45" speed.  I know it checks the weight of the record by pushing up the centre spool, and it is pushing up on start up, but I can't work out how it actually senses the lighter record.  

This is not explored in the service manual, and I can't see anything mechanical that is broken or misaligned or stuck... currently only way to play a small 45 is to manually cue and change speed.  it lowers the arm in the right place for 33 LPs no problem.

Any ideas welcome.
