    Surprised B&O have left that one up! I know some people don't like Film Mode. Always been very happy with it on my Avant DVD.

    What does the Film Mode mean (I don't own a B&O tv) ?

    Avant DVD is a good tv though :-), no other current B&O tv compares to it in every respect IMO Cool

    Film Mode is an extra piece of Digital trickery to make movement more natural. Some people like it, some don't!

    So you can choose to watch in this Film Mode, or in another? You don't necessarily have to shut it off via the system mode (as mentioned by Kasper Wedendahl) ?

    No. You do need to go into the service menu.

    As Peter said; there's nothing wrong with the DVD player - the Film Mode will add effects that I do not like either, and it is a B&O TV thing. In fact, the Film Mode is reason enough to upgrade to the BeoSystem 3 for some.

    Pretty expensive upgrade; say goodbye to the BV7 and buy another BV in combination with BS3?!

    Mr. Wedendahl speaks with some authority. He's an established Danish film director ... wonder whether something was wrong with his set?

    I do not belive there was something wrong with his set. B&O haven't spent as much time on Film Mode as they should have, a slightly altered Philips invention that is okay on a cheap tv - not on something like the BV7. The BeoSystem 3 sorts this out in an excellent way, but you will have to find room for a big (50") screen. And the comment regarding HDMI - spot on. B&O will have to fast track the updated version to keep their sales up...

    The BeoVision 7 does a great job on anything but movies - turning Film Mode off solves one issue, but adds another...

    I know how to access the service menu, checked it for the "film mode", but I could not find it. I wanted to see what difference it makes. Could you tell in witch chapter I can find the film mode?

    The Film Mode feature isn't all bad. It is a digital motion compensation for sharp motion reproduction, and does so in quite a few cases - but objects that move, especially while the camera is moving too, will get this funny outline that we all learned to dislike with the old Avant and the BeoVision 3.

    Some old software do not offer this choice. My BV3 is v7.3, and I can't disable it. Hopefully I like it very much !

       Just wanted to clarify.  I just bought a used Beosystem 1 and was planning on defeating the Filmmode for the same reasons as Mr. Wedendhal.  Are you saying, however, that by defeating Film Mode you reduce some quality aspects of the upconversion other than motion compensation?

    Yes, the Film Mode function is meant to process moving pictures in a different way when watching a movie compared to, say, sports. But the good thing is that you can turn it on/off as you please - so just give it a try. Some prefer to leave it on (and it may be the best option, knowing the B&O viewing panel and their track record) and a selected few prefer to turn it off.

    There are scene's where I do feel that Film Mode can't cope: If the camera is moving to follow a moving actor against a rather detailed background. A recent example of the effect (comparing Film Mode with the uber-cool BeoSystem 3) is when watching Casino Royale.

    Oh dear. This is the only (recent) movie when, for the first time in years, I turned on the Film Mode! I noticed a big difference from the start as, like you say, the camera follows the actors against a moving background. There appeared to be a shadow/effect around the actors. Result? Film Mode went off again, fairly quickly, and I've not tried it since!

     I do want to add the movie "House of Flying Daggers".

     

    The scenes in the bamboo forest made me sad, when I saw the ghost image during the scene.

    For test I did turned the movie mode OFF. Hope I can see a difference with the upcoming movies to watch.

    None... It's just a crappy stuff inherited from Philips (a brand well-known for their lousy picture treatments, such as Pixel Plus that makes any given film look like it was filmed as a live show).

    film mode is weird , it creates a bizarre pixellated mess about anything that moves and also gives everything else a kind of queasy , stomach churning other worldliness quality that i find most disconcerting

    it's like watching everything while being high i imagine , not a pleasant experience i think

    In hidden menu: picture adjustments, feature box menu, movie mode
    the options are 
    ON
    OFF
    AUTO

    Can you tell something more about the AUTO function?
