    Connect a Beomaster 6500 to non-B&O speakers

    Hi everyone!

    I've made my first B&O purchase on eBay - a Beomaster 6500 and a Beogram CD 6500 - but unfortunely I don't have any B&O speakers...

Is there a way to connect a pair of regular (B&W DM 600) speakers to my Beomaster 6500?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jorge Marcedo

    Hi Jorge,

    Welcome to BeoWorld Smile

Beomaster 6500 has sockets for both active and passive speakers,
so you can connect regular speakers to the Beomaster 6500.
You can hook up 2 pairs of passive speakers.

Do you have a remote for the Beomaster 6500 ?

For basic control you can use a Beolink 1000,
for advanced control you need MCP 6500 or Beolink 5000 or 7000

Thanks for your quick help, Ignace!

It was very helpfull, although I still don't know where to find cables with the apropriate sockets to connect my speakers to the 6500.

Additionally, I buy a Beolink 1000 remote control, but I've got to find out how to configurate it to work with my system...

    Cheers!

Re: Connect a Beomaster 6500 to non-B&O speakers

The speaker sockets at the rear of the 6500 are standard 2 pin DIN, the plugs (either solder or screw type) can be obtained from any electrical components retailer, when wiring the cables the positive connection is to the small round pole & negative to the flat spade. Alternatively, ready made speaker cables can be found on ebay.

The beolink 1000 doesn't need any configuring and will work just fine. You may need to ask again on here when you come to tune in the radio stations as it isn't straight forward for someone who hasn't done this before.

Thanks again for your fast and complete advise. I already bought the connectors and will try them late at night. I'll give you feedback on this.

Concerning the Beolink 1000 matter, I simply tried to command the Beomaster and the Beogram CD with it, but aparently nothing happens. Do I have to do anything, like some kind of reset or something?

    Cheers,

Re: Connect a Beomaster 6500 to non-B&O speakers

    You could try :

    SOUND, 1, STORE

(whilst Beomaster is in stand by)

Re: Connect a Beomaster 6500 to non-B&O speakers

Ignace is correct - this will set your Beomaster to the correct option for a stand alone item : ie not part of a linked B&O system.

Are you sure the beolink 1000 is working? You can apparently test if it is giving a signal by looking at it through the camera function on a mobile phone whilst pressing any button - although I haven't tried this myself member Craig says it works and I believe him.

    Good evening,

Just to announce that I finally can hear my system, thanks to your tips. The receiver and the CD player are working, and the Beolink 1000 is finally working too!

Two questions remain unanswered to me:

1 - How to configure and save some radio stations?

2 - Can I connect the sound of other sources, such as a non-B&O television, dvd player or a vinyl player?

Thanks again for your patience to this "rookie" in the B&O world!

Re: Connect a Beomaster 6500 to non-B&O speakers

    Hi Jorge,

I am happy to hear that your system is up and running !

    Smile

Regarding 1; tuning and saving radio stations :
    RADIO on Beolink 1000.
Press GO TO, press frequency (0-9), or use arrows < / >

To store: press STORE, then the number you want to store it to,
    then STORE again.

    (i haven't used a Beolink 1000 with Beomaster 6500 for a long time,
so i'm not 100% sure this is correct....)

Regarding 2; connecting other sources :

Yes, you can connect pretty much all sources you want,
to the TV/AUX socket for example, you can connect your non-B&O-tv.
You would need a DIN-to-RCA connector to be able to connect regular RCA-connectors

You only need the line-in (1 white RCA, 1 red RCA) for audio of your tv.

    Connecting a vinyl player: the Beomaster 6500 doesn't have a built-in RIAA pre-amplifier,
i'm sure other members can help you with more information about this.

    Enjoy your system !

Caution, B&O can become addictive, soon you will be wanting more and more ! Smile

It was, works for me at least Smile  However, after goto-frequency, you'll have to wait a while before the Beomaster decides that you won't be entering any more digits. Only after that it'll actually tune. I was too fast at first... It also wants the tenths always, i.e. to get 104 MHz you'll need to key 1-0-4-0.

But how do you select that particular input? I've tried pretty much every key combination I could think of (V.TAPE, TV, SATELLITE, with and without SHIFT) but the Beomaster just won't react. I have my DVD player in TAPE2 now... I don't know which version my Beolink 1000 is; it's the one with a lot of keys, TURN is there but MENU is not.

I guess the Beomaster doesn't respond because it "thinks" it is part
of a system that has both Audio- and Video- master (interconnected).
Option 1 means 'more than 1 infrared eye in the same room'.

This means you would have to "tell" the Beomaster to relay the sound
from the VIDEO source through the AUDIO master (the Beomaster),
-- > to have the sound from your tv,
    press AV, TV

-- > to have the sound from your DVD (is called CDV),
    press AV, SHIFT, CD
(applies to the Beolink 1000 you use, with the TURN button)

Note that the Beomaster will only display "AUX" on its display,
should you have Beolab speakers with displays, it would show CDV (for dvd)

    ----------------------------

If you don't have a Beovision, and don't want to use the AV command to have sound from VIDEO sources,
you can set the Beomaster to Option 2 (means 1 infrared eye in same room,
    all commands relayed through Beomaster),
which results in Beomaster responding to audio AND video controls / commands.

TV will switch to AUX / TV
    SHIFT + TV = V.AUX
    SHIFT + CD = CDV
    SHIFT + V.TAPE = V.TP2
(applies to the Beolink 1000 you use, with the TURN button)

You were right, that works. I suppose the guy I bought this set from also had a B&O TV sometime in the past.

    Thanks a bunch!

    1. Ignace has answered this but you MUST have an aeriel/antenna attached before you even try or you won't get a signal.

2, As for connecting a vinyl player (turntable to us in the UK) if you let us know exactly the model you wish to attach then a full answer will be given as there are several ways of doing this and the best advice depends on this.

The obvious turntable would be either the Beogram 6500 or 7000 as these were designed to match cosmetically & work perfectly by simply plugging directly into the phono input socket. The drawback is that they are quite hard to find and tend to cost quite a lot of money - probably more than the 2 units you already have added together.

    Hello,

Thank you all for your help!

Do you think it's safe and wise to buy a Beogram 5500?

I was thinking in attaching a regular turntable, such as a "Project", wich you can find here:

    http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?list=turntables&cat=turntables&lang=en

I suppose they have a RCA connection...

    Cheers!

That'll work fine, but you'll still need an external RIAA preamplifier (and an RCA to DIN adapter cable), like the Phono Boxes from the same vendor. Preamps can be had very cheap from half-nameless manufacturers, but I wouldn't spoil a nice setup with a marginal preamp.

(I was told before that you can still get the internal RIAA option board for BM6500 from the dealer, but I've yet to make an inquiry myself. However, you'd still need someone to install it for you, unless you're well into electronics)

What should I do to configure it with my system?

    Thanks in advance!
