if you're having airport reception issues with leopard - here's a fix !!

i got this invaluable tip from another site

"The trick is to go to Airport Admin and configure the BASE STATION to disable interface robustness. The interface robustness option disappeared from the card's config params in Leopard, but you can still disable it on the base station (I have it set for 802.11g only, no interface robustness, maximum multicast speed). Signal is 100% and all's well."

worked for me , my d/l speeds went from 128 k to 768 !! and from 1-2 bars to the full 4

it's in leopard utilities - a white circular app

     file:///Applications/Utilities/AirPort/Utility.app/

it helps you set up and customise your internet access

    Hi Peter,

Airport Utility you'll find in the Utility folder. Once you've launched that go to Manual.

In the Summary, click the Channel line.

That will open the Pane for the Wireless settings.

Now click Wireless Option and check whether Interference Robustness is activated.

Thanks for that! My internet has at times been slower - I wondered if it was Time Machine hogging the resources.

    Hi, thanks for the tip.

    Via an Ethernet connexion : Download Speed: 3397 kbps (424.6 KB/sec )   UploadSpeed: 844 (105.4 KB/sec )

    - With manual parameters : DownloadSpeed: 4206 kbps(525.8 KB/sec )   Upload Speed: 843 kbps (105.4 KB/sec )

    Via Airport activated : Download Speed: 3232 kbps (404 KB/sec )   UploadSpeed: 841kbps (105.1 KB/sec )

Do you think it is better to remain with an Ethernet connexion in term of stability/ performance,  instead of Airport ?

    Cheers,

    Guy

P.S : sorry for the format of my message, it seems Safari doesn't consider the font size and family parameters...

Mine is laughable!! 221kbps in and 136kbps out!! Apparently down to my telephone line! However it is free! And I mean free! Not part of a package - just free!

Yes if its convenient. I have my iMac connected by ethernet but can also connect by Airport. The iMac however choses the ethernet to connect. Download the widget iStat Pro its pretty handy for viewing connections and speed.
