    Beolab 3500 and A.Aux

    Hello again,
I have a BL3500 (350 euros, woot!) and when I press A.Aux on my Beo4, nothing happens.  Does A.Aux not work at all on the BL3500, does it not work because my software is 1.1, or am I just smoking crack and it should work?

    Thanks again!

BL3500 is indeed a speaker. And as with my passive amplifier with IR eye, you cannot put it on mode A.aux in sight of this beolink-eye (BL3500 has one to).

You have to go all the way to your system, and put the system over there in A.aux mode. Then automatically the BL3500 will give you the sound of the hifi, and thats A.aux

Yes, I kown my spelling is horrible… Huh?

Oh sorry... I have the BeoSound 4.  Hmmm... so I can't change from CD to AUX from the 3500?  =(

Actually while we're at it, when I set the BL3500 to Clock 2, it still doesn't show the clock...

    Re: Beolab 3500 and A.Aux

CLOCK 2… When the BeoLab 3500 is switched to standby, the display will show the time and the red standby light. The time indication remains on when the BeoLab 3500 is playing, but whenever you operate the BeoLab 3500 (either close-up or by remote control), the display will give you a brief status on the operation. This is the factory setup.

If you have just switched on (powerd up) the Beolab 3500, then the clock will not show immediately, in fact it can take sometime.

The clock will only show if it is receiving clock data from the master device. In other words if the Masterlink (MCL) is not connected the clock will not show even if you have it set to CLOCK 2

    Regards Keith....

Wow! Thats cheap, actually i've never heard it before, how would you descrbe the sound? I'm sure it goes loud, but considering the small drivers and the 0.8 litres capacity i assume there isn't much bass at all? Good stereo though i'm sure (the opposite of a BS1).

The clock just doesn't show at all under any setting.  Maybe the BeoSound 4 doesn't send the info?

The BL3500 sounds really good.  At least as good as the BeoSound Century it's replacing.  I got it for a steal because the metal is a little scratched up on the back and sides.  For that price I'd have taken it even if it looked like someone used it to jack their car up to change out the winter tires.  The grill covers are fine and you can't see the scratches since it's on top of my cabinet in my bedroom.  The sound is still good, just as good as the one my local handler has (with the old tweeters, like mine).

Silly question, but I must ask it, you did setup the time and date on the Beosound 4 ?

Not a silly question at all.  But yes, I did.  It doesn't, however, display all the time.  Only when I hit menu--> show clock.  Or whatever it's called.  That wouldn't matter though, would it?

Provided the clock has been setup it should supply it to the slave devices on a polling basis.

I suggest, as a next step you power down both the Beosound 4 and the Beolab 3500 for a couple of minutes and then power them up again and the Masterlink will go through its power up handshaking protocol which includes setting the clock.

Is this true with all issues of the software, Keith?

No, it is not with all versions of software. Version 1.0 of the Beolab 3500 had several problems with many functions not translated onto the Masterlink. Version 1.1 saw some improvements, but it was not until version 2.0 did it really become a totally compatible product.

I didn't think it did. I remember having a LCS9000 that would not show the clock.

    Graham,

If you used the LCS9000 with MCL then you had the clock problem, but with software version 1.1 and using Masterlink the clock was displayed. If you recall when the LCS9000 first came out and I had one of the very first, it had a black plug over the Masterlink socket and was sold as a MCL compatible unit only.

In all cases I tend to suggest upgrading to version 2.0 to avoid any issues anyway.

    Regards Keith....

    Re: Beolab 3500 and A.Aux

Hope this helps, i have a BS4 with a BL3500 connected via masterlink, my 3500 dates from circa 2001 and i can control all inputs from the 3500, just set A Aux on my Beo 4 and yes i can select that input on the BL3500. Obviously some of the newer options don't display correctly on the 3500 cos they weren't around when my 3500 was made,  e.g if i select A Mem for the SD card the 3500 displays A Tape but plays the correct source i.e. the SD card.

    N Music = A Tape 2.  N Radio = Phono.

The grat thing is i can have twol different sources playing cos i have a set of speakers connected to the BS4 see other posts on the subject.

Re the time display on the 3500? yes thats fine when set up on the BS4 as mentioned by Keith.

    Re: Beolab 3500 and A.Aux

Thanks for the info, cutting the BS4 off the mains and then plugging it back in fixed the clock issue.  The A. Aux thing is sort of wacky.  I guess I'll just need to get use to it.  It's too bad that I can't activate A.Aux directly, regardless of what's on the BS4 since I have a MacMini that's always streaming music and I'd like to be able to activate that.  I think I'll take it in and get the software upgrade.  It's running 1.1 right now.

Is there a way to set up devices so that the remote won't activate both?  As in, I still have my BeoSound Century and would also like to have it in my room but the remote changes the setting on that and my BL3500.  It would be cool to be able to change the volume or activate the CD of just one and not the other.

You could fit a IR range reducer to your Beo4 as they do in B&O dealerships

Maybe setting one item on option 4 would help. You then access it with Link + Source.

A test you can do now, without changing option setting, try Link+CD. And tell us if one of them, both of them or none of them is reacting.

Okay, I'll try this today or tomorrow.

Does the BL2000 react the same way?  Or does the A.Aux actually activate on that?

    Re: Beolab 3500 and A.Aux

Alrighty.  I tried the option 4 thing and now the BL3500 works independently.  Sort of.  It only seems to activate the sources.  I can't change the volume nor shut off the BL3500 speaker with the remote.  Is this normal?

Also, I'm using a Beolink 1000 in that room since the link option instructions here (http://www.bang-olufsen.com/graphics/bogo/media/Beolink/professionals/ML_Handbook_US.pdf) don't cover my version of the Beo4 (Mark II, I think, with vtape and atape buttons).

edit:  UPDATE:  So, I could only program the BL3500 with the beolink 1000.  And then with the Beo4, it works prima.  That's cool because now I'll be able to get the use of the CD in my BS4, as well as the radio stations that I have on my BS4 (only one cable connection in the apartment) and I can use the BS Century for Aux and a different CD.  Cool.  Guess it's time to invest in a 2nd Beo4 and toss my beolink 1000 in a drawer.

    Re: Beolab 3500 and A.Aux

i have full functions on on 3500, the volume works, i can set the timer, change tracks, sources etc on the BS4. I can power down the BS4 via the 3500  as long as no one is using the BS4 independantly in the other room it which case only the 3500 will power down.

I would try to seek a software upgrade if possible frm a dealer or ask on this forum

You can power down everything on the link system by holding down the ST.BY button on any link product, even if something is being used independently in another room. Wink

I mentioned the software upgrade to my dealer and he actually said it wasn't worth it!  (from 1.1 to 2.1)  He said that at least with what I had and wanted to do, I wouldn't get anything out of it.  I was kind of surprised since I figured he'd jump at any chance to make money off my rookie butt but I guess not everyone is as capitalistic and cynical as me =\
