Hi all

I was lucky enough to win this beautiful beocenter in the August prize draw. it looks fantastic but I cant get the turntable to work !! The central black disc that should move up and down to register a record doesnt move and is stuck down and the lifting mechanism doesnt operate it just drags the needle across both at the start and finish and then returns but resting with the needle on the surface.

I have a beogram 1500 and believe the mechanism is the same. I can work that one without any real problems. Has anyone any ideas?? I would love this to be fully functional!

The arm thing sounds like the often seen tonearm lift problem.
We've had that here on the forum several times and I've uploaded a photo a couple of times to illustrate the point to lubricate but I can't seem to find it here now.

Of course, there can be several causes for the arm not
lifting, transport damage can't be ruled out,
but the above mentioned would be the first thing to check.

Playing a record after standing unused for a long time, it
will probably lower the arm correctly the first time but refuse to
lift it again or only lift very slowly. This is very common.
Since the signal is muted just before lifting the arm, you will
not be aware of the needle abrading on the record unless you actually
look at the arm while it (lifts and) returns.

As I understand it, this Beocenter was indeed left unused for years
and tested prior to the prize draw and I'm sure that it was working fine, playing
a record but maybe just one and the fault would not be obvious.
I would check the lift mechanism, it's not as hard as it seems, and
while in there check the center tap.

Hello!

Dont know if its any help to you but on my BG 3000 (tangential) the raising middle adaptor got halfway stuck which resulted the pickup to lower just millimeters off the aluminum platter when I was trying to play a single! However after taking out the hole platter and the midlle mecanism carefully cleaning the plastic tube which goes up&down the platter size detector works again.If you have same size detector, my tip is to clean it well also, the center needs to move up/down with ease or you will get probs.

MartinIm a little confused. Should the thin brass pin that slots into the big brass pin move i.e horizontally as this moves freely or does the big brass pin move up and down as this is rigid i.e vertically.

The "hairpin" just goes through a hole in the brass rod.
It will rock a bit sideways (horisontally) if pushed but that's not important.
The important thing is the brass rod itself, the brass
rod with the hole in it that is.
It sits inside a brass tube and the rod should move up and
down (vertically) fairly free inside its tube.
Grab it gently with a pair of pliers and you should be able to
slide it up and down a total of apprx 2 mm.
If it's stuck, we have the situation I described and the cure is in the thread I link'ed to.

You can help it a bit and speed up the process if you gently try to move the brass rod even if only slightly.
It will ease the oil down the dry spots and you can easily feel the difference as it loosens.

Hi

After 24 hrs of soaking in oil the brass rod moves up and down unfortunately it still doesnt lift. Having looked inside the casing seems to have shifted and their are a number of loose wires not sure whether they should be loose or not??? Moved the central pin that goes through the brass hole but it was attached to a loose piece of brown plastic??

 Screwed it all back together connected to the speakers and no sound!! Even with headphones. The radio works Hadnt tested the sound before due to it scraping along the record.

Bottom line is it must have been thrown about in the post ive also found in its box a side panel off something not sure what it is possibly right hand side of the turntable.

 Does anybody want this as a project? i have very basic knowledge and this is too complicated. Phoned b&0 they are not interested in repairing.

 Such a shame but if anybody wants my 5th prize they can have it and I will post in the UK only it is such a nice beocenter !
