Shall i buy Beocom 6000s or not!?

Hi all...my first post on this new site!

My pair of Philips phones are now at the end of their useful life...damb things cut out now and again and buttons sometimes don't work when you press them etc...so i need a pair of phones for our house and the Beocom 6000s would be very nice. I don't want the Beocom 2 because they are more expensive and my two little kids would use them oneday to play Starwars light sabre fights!!!

So...are the Beocom 6000s worth the money to those of you who know...or would i be best off buying a standard cheaper manufacturers model?

    Cheers,Joff

Very pleased with ours. Not sure they offer anything spectacular over the alternatives (we also have a Panasonic system, on the office extension, which is fine but ugly and very plasticky) but they are typical B&O - very good build quality, good sound quality, work well, easy to use and with some nice features - and of course the system syncs with my serene!  Also, not all that expensive (for B&O). I'd recommend.

We've had our 6000s for years now, not a single problem. I recollect having cheaper alternatives before which if my memory serves, were a poor alternative to the quality of beocom6000s. Definately worth the slightly extra cost involved.

Highly recommended by me. Sound quality is excellent and the system I have with 4 phones works a treat. SWMBO can even use it now after a little instruction!

Same in our house - the cost will soon be forgottenSmile

We've had two in out house for 5 or 6 years now and they work a treat.  We have to reboot our PSTN base probably twice a year as the phone loose contact.  But they have never lost any information and my base is the old style version.

I've had my BC6000' for some years now and can definately recommend them, easier to hold and use than the BC2. If any of mine went wrong (because they are old now) would replace with the same but with the current model so that I could use the earset.

I have 4 6000s, Lounge, Kitchen, Main bedroom and garage.

I can't extoll their virtues enough! Scroll wheel is a joy to use, sound quality is great, they sync with my Serene and above all they look gorgeous, much better (IMHO) than Beocom 2. You leave them on their chargers at all times and they charge when they deem it nessescary nessessary nescessary needed. I have never had to change a battery in my own ones.

    Go for it!

Have 3 6000s, a 2 a 2500 and a 1401. The 6000s are brilliant and wouldn't change them for anything. And my wife likes them as well. No problems with any of them. Much easier to use than the 2.

Re: Shall i buy Beocom 6000s or not!?

    Hallo Joff !

I read your post, and children aside for the moment, would suggest you go ahead and make the purchase of the Beocom 6000.

We have a 6000 as well as a BC 2 that I originally purchased in Europe 5 or 6 years ago. They worked fine up in the Suisse Alps, never complained about the cold, and as a reward are now enjoying the tropical heat near the Equator in Brasil. Both operate well here with the telephone system, our local electrical system is  230 V - 60 c as in Europe. Only a phoneline wall adaptor was needed ( 1 Euro + - )

Both work well in this environment, and yes,  the odd puzzled look from guests results in hands on examination of both units,  until it is understood that they are telephones. Both have been dropped a few times on the floor tile, with no adverse result ( so far ). The sound quality is excellent as expected, and the ring tones can be set to a multitude of choices and sound levels.

Differences: The BC 6000 is easier to read screen text and phone numbers, lighter, and easier to operate with the rotor control wheel design. The BC 2 is operated primarily by the thumb, which takes a short while to become familiar with. In the tropical heat, the BC 6000 is more comfortable on the ear with long conversations, than the BC 2. Both control B&O A-V equipment, effectively and  immediately.

Children: We have neighbors over with children constantly. The Plasma is wall mounted up high, as are the BL 4000's. The BC 6000 is taken out of the charger and placed up on a glass shelf,  just out of reach, we would hope. The BC 2 is put away for the duration of the munchkin visit. I would think you could train your own children to be careful and respect the BC 6000 as a telephone. Well, perhaps.

I do have a problem though with our BS 3200, as we mounted it to the masonry wall, but not quite high enough  it seems.  The kids love that one, and I think we have set the record on how many times the glass doors have been opened and closed with the IR eye. That unit and little hands requires constant monitoring, and as a rule, we clean the BS 3200, especially the lower half,  when guests leave.

Take the plunge and purchase a 6000. You will enjoy it, kids included.

I can recommend them. I was in the same situation last year when I was moving from Germany to Denmark. I had a Siemens giga set that worked well but offcourse there are different plugs again in Denmark so I figures it was time for a new set up. I bought 3 handsets with chargers. One in the livingroom, one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. It's a great system with the intercom function and the added benifit that you can adjust the sound volume on all your B&O equipment. Offcourse they are more expensive than for instance Siemens but they do look a lot nicer.

    Hi,

Do not hesitate one more second!!! Of course, those phones are expensive, but less than a beocom 2, and more easy to use. Either the wall or the table chargers are beautifull, and the sound incredible. The fact that several handsets synchronise automatically is a plus, too. I have a light blue one, and a grey too. What should be your longer refelxion is the colour choice!!!!

I have two! by far the best in terms of reliability!

Only ever had one issue which is that the number one handset name does not appear when dialing internally... dont know why.. but other than that excellent choice!

But what about the Beocom 4?  Why wouldn't someone want to upgrade to the Beocom 4 instead of the older 6000, unless it was purely for the look of it or can the Beocom 4 not be used the same way as the 6000?

Beocom 4 is a stand alone phone. The 6000's can share the same base/phonebook with up to 6 other handsets including Beocom 2's.

I choose to use my 6000 over my 2 everytime. Its much easier to use.

Thanks for the clarification.  I wasn't sure if the 4 could share with other 4's like the 6000. Has anyone had good luck with the Beocom 4? I like the looks of it and don't really need the features of the 6000 at this time.

The Beocom 4 is the best phone to use IMHO. It was my first phone and I loved it for its ease of use and great looks. However I sold it for a Beocom2 which looks nice and joins my phone network, but thats about it.

    Steve,

the beocom 4 is very similar to use to the 6000. It has pretty much the same spec's - 200 name phone book, scroll wheel etc.... The keys are slightly smaller but if you only want a stand alone phone then definately recommended. I personally prefer the neat looks & the way it sits on the base but prefer the versatility of the 6000.

    Chris.

Btw, this may be old news but the phone on Deal or no Deal is a Beocom 6000. Just noticed that last night.

Re: Shall i buy Beocom 6000s or not!?

    Hi all,

i bought a pair of black Beocom 6000s the other day and they look and work great.

I was surprised that they don't have a built-in 'handsfree' facility though...it is always handy when changing a nappy or doing the ironing etc!

The only slight fault that i have found is that the paintwork on the inner side where the earpeice holes are has a sort of brush mark across..as if the paint was slightly smudged before it dried? Both phones are the same and i rang my dealer and he says that their demo is the same too??? Any of you got this same issue?

    Cheers, Joff
