    MX 7000, Beolab 3500 and ML/MCL

    Hi

I have a central system, including an avant, beosound 9000 and beolab 3500 and a non-B&O DVD player controlled by DVD controller. Apart from the beolab 3500 they are all in the same room. Now I recently acquired an old but properly working MX7000. This one is placed in the same room as the beolab 3500. At this moment I have installed it as a 'separate' tv with no interaction with the rest of the B&O system (for that I also set the beolab 3500 in option 5, so it does not turn on when you press tv). Would be great if I could get the picture from the DVD player onto the MX7000. The MX 7000 is of the type 7800 (produced between 96 and 99) and does not have ML connections. However, I noticed in the manual of the beolab 3500 that this piece of equipment does have both ML and MCL connections. Is it possible to connect the MX7000 to the MCL socket of the beolab 3500 and so get a connection with the ML system and therewith 'draw' the signal of the DVD player. If not possible, what DO I need? A converter like the 1611 directly connected onto the ML system?

Hope somebody can shed a light on this one,

    kees

Hi, from my point of view it's not possible. What you need is a Beolink Video http://beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=982 and be connected to the ML-cable this way. This means you need also a modulator module in your avant and a antenna cable between the avant and the mx7000.

In this constellation you can watch DVD on your mx7000 (but be aware the modulator produces only mono sound! you can use stereo using the old "Link" and "A/V" button

A possibility would be to connect your MX to the Avant via the Coax out of the Avant. Choose DVD on you Beolab 3500 and set the MX to the link channel. You will hear the soud of the DVD via your 3500 and the video via your MX.

This will be the cheap way to do it, not the best way but will work. just a thing to add:

keep Bl3500 in option 5 and press AV DVD and mute sound from bl3500, if not placed over the MX7000

on the AVANT you have to set the marker on LINK FRQ. and press MENU then set MODULATOR to ON.

    Thanks

But how do I know if I modulator is installed? I bought the avant from new some 9-10 years ago as first piece of B&O equipment, so at that moment there was no need for a modulator and I do not think it was a standard option?!

On the AVANT, look at the sockets at the back and above the Aerial socket is the RF output socket for the modulator. Which AVANT type do you have ?

    Re: MX 7000, Beolab 3500 and ML/MCL

There is indeed a socket out, and in the tuning menu I can 'turn' the modulator on (with beo 4: menu-setup-tuning-tv-menu and then the word modulator appears next to tv and by pressing 'go' you can then turn it of or on). However, from a picture in the the service manual of the avant I get the impression that when the modulator is set to 'on' then also the modulator should appear as separate item in the tuning menu (apart from tv and v.tape). In my case that does not happen.

The avant I have is of the type 83/00 and has a serial numbert starting with 123....

The word modulator itself does not appear in the tuning menu, but if you press "Tuning" in the menu, then you should see two items being TV tuning and "Link Frequency" which by default is normally set to 599 Mhz, but you can change it if needed.

As the serial number of your AVANT starts 12... means it was manufactured in 1997

AVANTS with a type number of 830X are Mark I AVANT's
