Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
Hello,
this is my first post, so hello everybody and thanks for all the informations here!
I am trying to configure my beo6 remote, but i am struggeling with the 3rd party products. I would like it to work with my samsung le 40a656 tv and technisat digit isio receiver in the living room. Also if possible with apple TV and really optional would be an old Sony A/V receiver. My B&O system in the living room is a beosound 3000 w/ beolab 6000 speakers.
I assume that the Samsung TV file from a previous post here somewhere works fine with my TV but my real problem is the technisat receiver. I have found some sort of codes on the lintronic site for the digit isio (under supported products), but I am not sure how to proceed from here on...
unfortunately I do not own any equipment to read codes from the remote directly.
I was hoping someone could maybe explain me how to convert these codes on the lintronic site, or maybe there is even a easier way? Thank you,
Martin.

Hi and welcome to Beoworld,
I'm sorry, I can't give you any information on how to convert these codes, but Keith Saunders our Beo5/6 XML master can help you with that.
I think he will be there soon

Re: Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
Hi & thank you
No problem at all, I'm sure it will take some time to get the Beo6 perfect, so I'm not in a hurry ;) I've seen on the FAQ page and on the Beo5 page that Keith is probably the man for this ;) I just hope it's not too bothered by a beginner like me :D

Martin.

Re: Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
Martin,
A Very Warm Welcome to Beoworld..
Controlling third party products that you have listed is not a problem, but you need to understand some of the limitations of the B&O Configuration Tool when it comes when trying to make changes to third party products. For this reason ALL 3rd party XML configuration files I produce will have hardkeys and digits and any other required elements pre-assigned, then it is just drag-n-drop within the Configuration Tool.
Lets start with the easy requirement you have and that is the Apple TV, you can download an Apple TV XML file HERE which is contained within a ZIP file. Extract the ZIP file to C:\ and it will automatically place the XML file into the correct directory of the B&O Configuration Tool.
In the Configuration Tool click on PRODUCTS then the tab marked OTHER and you will see Apple TV and you can just drag it into your configuration.
Once you have tested it, let me know how you get on and then we can look at your next product.

Re: Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
Hi Keith,
Thank you for the welcome and your help!
AppleTV and the Samsung TV are working now! Although the Samsung file doesn't seem to support all the functions... but it's more than good enough for the time being! I guess the Technisat won't be as simple, or is it?
Thank you again, cheers Martin!

Re: Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
OK Martin..
What is the model number of the Technisat ?
We need to determine what protocol is used which I think is likely to be Philips RC6 protocol which is complex, but can be done.

Re: Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
Martin,
My research appears to show that this device uses Philips RC5 protocol (Carrier Frequency 36 Khz) and uses a device address of decimal 08
Is the following remote the one with your unit ?

Martin,
With regards to your 4th requirement, the Sony AV Receiver, you may wish to try the XML file HERE
You don't state the model, but this one may work

Re: Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
Martin,
Thank you for confirming which remote you have for the Technisat.
I can confirm that I have made an XML file based on your remote which can be downloaded from HERE and extracted from the ZIP file as previously stated.

Hallo.
Keith, could you please explain the difference between having the hardkeys and digits etc. pre-assigned in the XML file, vs just program the keys in the Configuration Tool.

Re: Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
Atle,
There are two main reasons for pre-assigning hardkeys, digits and logos within the 3rd party XML file before using it in the B&O Configuration Tool
- The user can just drag-n-drop the 3rd party product in their existing configuration and need make no further modifications. So its just a matter of adding it to your existing configuration and downloading the configuration to the Beo5/6. Very quick and will take less that one minute to add and download.
- Many changes you may wish to make to the 3rd party product within the Configuration Tool either don't work or work incorrectly.
All Beo5/6 configurations and product information is stored in a large number of XML files. When you add any product 3rd party or B&O to your main configuration you are effectively adding one XML file to another using the initial structure setup when you first created your zones.
So, you are now going to ask "What is an XML file?"
In simple terms XML stands for eXtensible Markup Language and is designed to transport and store data. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable and is in a flat text file which can be opened with any text editor.

Re: Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
Thanks Keith.
Ok, I can see the advantage of getting a file with pre-assigned hardkeys etc, but how do you program this in to the files?
Do you just manually type everything in, or is it cut and past, or?
Regards
Atle.

Re: Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
Atle,
I do NOT cut-n-paste within the XML file as this would take a very long time.
Some 2 years ago I spent several months developing a Windows based program which took much of the hard work out of creating full 3rd party XML with everything needed for that product pre-assigned. Below is a screen shot to allow you to understand how I do it. Also, if you open one of my XML files with a text editor you will be able to see the XML structure used.

Re: Beo 6 and Samsung TV + Technisat Receiver
Keith,
Well I guessed it was something like that. I have looked at a few of your files, trying to figure out the structure/system .I have also made a few XML's of my own, but I had to do cut-n-paste. Then as you say, it takes a long time, and it is very easy to do mistakes, by leaving out a character or two.
I guess you do not want to share your software
Thanks
Atle
