Leslie, I am disabled and retired from work. I am watching eBay.co.uk more than 18 hours a day so I miss very little of interest. That display or one very similar has been on before.

I saw that display this time but I didn't need one at the time.  I do now!

PM me if you want to sell it.

    Regards Graham

Replace the large electrolytics on the display board before deciding that you need another one.

I am curious, do the micros fail in these often or do the faults tend to be less serious?

Tired caps is the only systematic fault I have heard of.

Otherwise the boards have very little to fail. Mk.I runs on i8049 and the II/III apparently both on 80C52. None of these are particularly sensitive to ESD but careless handling can undoubtedly kill all of them.

This one has been repaired several times. It has now failed again and it is at the stage where it is more down than up!

It is time to replace it!

Could it be possible that the display has a defect? To do fault finding I would have swapped the display to make sure where the fault is, either the PCB or display.

Yes the display has a defect. Yes the pcb's have a defect. They have been repaired on numerous occasions.

Now is the time to replace them.

Tomorrow my dear wife will send you the display/board as I'm not able to do anything nowSuper Angry. Try it first and let me know!
