Re: The last film you watched and said "I really enjoyed that"

    GuyHui :

    Hi everybody,

    Tonight I rented again Crash.

Paul Haggis (...) delivers an image of America post-September 11, racist, violent and sectarian. He also shows the small internal wars between ethnic communities. Strong, brutal, without concession. Impassioning!

The film depicts several characters living in Los Angeles during a 36-hour period and brings them together through car accidents, shootings, and carjackings. Most of the characters depicted in the film are racially prejudiced in some way and become involved in conflicts which force them to examine their own prejudices. Through these characters' interactions, the film attempts to depict and examine not only racial tension but the distance between strangers in America.

How did I manage to miss this post? Crash is probably my all time favourite film. Absolutely brilliant. Stunning soundtrack as well...

Is this the movie I know as LA Crash or is this another movie? The story Guy describes is quite similar to the one of LA Crash...

You are right, "LA Crash" refers to the same movie "Crash". It seems this title was used in the german version.

    Aloha,

Tonight I rented the movie "John Q".

    The plot :
John Q. is basically what the tagline says it is. You leave a father no options, you leave him no choice. That's pretty much true.
A down-on-his luck father, whose insurance won't cover his son's heart transplant, takes the hospital's emergency room hostage until the doctors agree to perform the operation.

The question is what would YOU have done in his case ?

If you like Denzel Washington, you should see American Gangster. Really enjoyed that. The latest movie that I saw and really liked was Once upon a time in America. Even though it's more than 20 years old, I've never seen it until a few days ago. It last nearly 4 hours so you'll be kept entertained the whole evening.

And now for something completely different!

I watched this with friends just before Christmas, and we were amazed at how quickly three plus hours just flew by! It was so engrossing that I repeated the experience during the holidays together with family, and it left us all with smiles on our faces.

Brilliant dts-sound, astonishing vocal performances and a scenography that will have you wonder at what's possible on a stage, during a LIVE performance! Ricardo Muti conducts with absolute aplomb.

I have seen the movie Enchanted.

Very contemporary action and comedy movie, funny, original and for adult public too.

    Plot Synopsis:
An animated fairy tale meets modern, live-action comedy. The beautiful princess Giselle is banished by an evil queen from her magical, musical animated land and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern-day Manhattan. Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn't operate on a "happily ever after" basis, Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But when Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer who has come to her aid - even though she is already promised to a perfect fairy tale prince back home - she has to wonder: Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?

I'm sure quite a few will cringe with what I'm about to say, but I do quite like the latest Bond movie - Casino Royale. I watched this today on BluRay via PS3 on BeoVision 4 and BeoLab 5.

Not had the chance to see it yet. Carol brought me the complete James Bond box set for Christmas. Hve to admit I was very tempted to watch this first. Although I decided to watch them in order. So it could be a while before I get to this one. Only watched Dr No and From Russia With Love so far.Laughing

I seem to develop a taste for movies with the word America(n) in the title. In my previous post I mentioned American Gangster and once upon a Time in America. Last night I watched TV and saw American History X. Perhaps not enjoyable in the traditional sense of the word, but a very impressive movie.

American History X is an awesome film, extremely well written except for that god awful ending! Could have been soo much better had the crew had the balls to write and alternative ending..

Crash is a fave of mine aswell... watched World Trade Center last night, very hard film to watch and refreshing to see 9/11 as seen in the eyes of those affected but not by the rest because of the media.

This is one of my favorite movie of Woodie Allen with Match Point :
    - The Curse of the Jade Scorpion from Woodie Allen.

    The plot :
Woodie Allen stars as C.W. Briggs, a set-in-his-ways old-time insurance investigator who refuses to get along with the bright new efficiency expert, Betty Ann Fitzgerald (Helen Hunt), brought in to streamline his office's operations. Their back-and-forth bickering is reminiscent of the interplay between Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell in HIS GIRL FRIDAY.
When a magician, played by the always excellent David Ogden Stiers, hypnotizes them as part of his stage act, Briggs unknowingly becomes a jewel thief while falling in and out of love with the exceedingly more confused Fitz, who is carrying on a secret affair with the married head of the company (Dan Aykroyd).
Mayhem ensues as a pair of brother detectives zero in on the criminal, a sexy debutante comes on to Briggs, and Briggs and Fitz start suspecting each other.
Production designer Santo Loquasto, who has been working with Allen for more than twenty years, once again has created beautiful sets, and the soundtrack, featuring such 1940s jazz treasures as Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington, is simply splendid

Well, if you have a Dolby Digital setup, try The Transporter. It is just another action movie, but the sound-engineers created the best surround track I have ever heared. Just wind up to 43 minutes in the movie, there is an attack on the house of the movies star. It is mindblowing. Bullets and rockets coming from behind. Mind you, my setup is Avant RF 28 wirth 4 Beolab Penta. No subwoofer and stil every piece of china in my house is shivering. I actually use this part of the movie as a testtrack to convince friends that there is more than just a pretty face in the B&O setup.

O, and the movie starts with the best car chase I have ever seen!

You do not own B&O, it owns you!

I have seen Room 1408, a movie based on a story by S. King last weekend.

It was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. So boring!

I found 300 good as well. Something a bit outside the normal.

I liked "The Life of others", a movie about the state police (stasi) in eastern germany. Very nicely done, a bit older. it has english subtitles but I believe it might have english language as well on the disk.

Eastern Promises was also very much worth watching even though it is completely different from the above.

I love the latest Bond movie, although it isn't really an 007 film so lacks the classic bond theme etc... (which is part of the whole 'Bond' thing for me). Good movie though...

    Sex Traffic - Sypnosis from http://www.lovefilm.com/product/69654-Sex-Traffic.html :
The story of two young Moldovan sisters, kidnapped and trafficked through Romania, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Italy to the dark side of London, betrayed by pimps and police, and fighting for their lives. The reverberations of their story are explosive, exposing far-reaching corruption that implicates big business in America and international peacekeeping forces in Europe alike.

This is no a comfortable movie. It is upsetting, disturbing, violent and very realistic. GREAT performance of actress Anamaria Marinca.
