    Aloha David,

    I agree.
When I watched this movie, I was astonished by the similarity of the human cases in Crash and those one we can/have face(d) in reality.
Sometimes, prejudice can lead to misunderstanding and the hatred of the other. The basis of this issue being Fear of difference.

In the movie, I also remember that the bad man isn't especially what we think about him at the contrario of the policeman that may not be as good as he appears to be.

Very nice cast and excellent acting.

     Black Book (2006)

Set in the fall of 1944, a thriller about the Dutch underground based on true events that span nearly a year around Rachel Stein, a young, pretty German Jewish woman who falls for a high-ranking Gestapo officer while seeking revenge for her family's murders. Everyone involved soon finds themselves embroiled in a spider's web of intrigue, treachery and betrayal--to the point where friend and enemy blur together into an indistinguishable line.

Das Leben der Anderen (2006) / The Lives of Others (2006)

In 1984 East Berlin, five years before Glasnost and the fall of the Berlin wall, Captain Gerd Wiesler, a highly skilled officer who works for the Stasi, East Germany’s all-powerful secret police, gradually becomes disillusioned.

Assigned to spy on the celebrated playwright George Dreyman, by Minister Bruno Hempf, he bugs Dreyman’s apartment and sets up surveillance in the attic of the building. At first Weisler's observations show that, unlike most of his artistic peers, Dreyman does not display any outwardly disdain for the GDR (German Democratic Republic). Dreyman's position slowly changes however, as he discovers that his girlfriend, Christa-Maria, has been pressured into a sexual relationship with Minister Hempf.

When his close friend, theater director Albert Jerska is driven to suicide after years of unofficial “blacklisting” by the government, Dreyman can no longer remain silent. Now determined to alert the outside world about the conditions of life under the GDR, he begins a plot to place an article with the famous West German publication Der Spiegel, exposing the GDR's policy of covering up the high suicide rates under the regime.

Meanwhile, Wiesler's unemotional façade is showing signs of erosion. While he observes the day-to-day life of Dreyman and Christa-Maria, he begins to be drawn into their world.

Well I just watched "Diabolique" briefly because TCM was airing it. I saw the whole movie on DVD about 2 years ago though. Great film.

The most recent one was "Divorce, Italian Style". I loved it! Very funny. Plus, Marcello is one of the greats in my book. Highly recommended

I have been watching Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 last week-end. I did not like it at all. Tarantino may be a genious, but I think these were not his best movies or I just don't understand what he wanted to tell us...

    GuyHui :

The Last King of Scotland, based on a true story.

    Guy

I have seen it on Sunday. Really a great movie. It really shocked me, as I had never heard of Amin before. One of the best movies I have seen in a long time! Great performance by Forest Whitaker. He deserved that Academy Award.

Re: The last film you watched and said "I really enjoyed that"

If you enjoyed "Last King of Scotland" you should really watch, "General Idi Amin: Autoportrait". It's a documentary by Barbet Schroeder. Amin gave him a lot of headroom for the project. In fact a little too much....

Amin thought that the film was going to portray him as the "great guy" he thought he was. But upon seeing the final product was very angry. As a result he rounded up every French citizen in Uganda and put them in a hotel surrounded by armed guards. Amin gave each prisoner the phone number of Barbet Schroeder and told them that if they want to live they have to call Barbet and demand certain scenes be cut or else they would be executed. This worked. Schroeder cut the parts Amin found unflattering. Upon Amin's collapse of power he edited them back in. So the film you see today is in it's original form.

Amin thought Barbet was his Leni Reifenstahl and really gave him a lot of filming privliges. This results in a very interesting documentary/study on one of Africa's most brutal dictator.

Re: The last film you watched and said "I really enjoyed that"

I saw "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" expecting it to kill 2 and a bit hours before I was supposed to meet someone. It was honestly one of the best things I've seen in years. Great story, wonderfully acted by a cast of eccentric people, but with it's steampunk styling it had a beautiful art deco feel to it. I really can't wait until they make the 2nd part (as rumoured on the net, following good viewing figures) and I can go and get the boxset

I just watched "Vanishing Point". Supposedly quite a cult film. It was pretty good. On the surface not so amazing but afterwards it was nice to reflect on certain themes in it. It was made around 1970-71. Post Woodstock America. A lot of people back then were discontented with the administration of the time. Taking that into account the film took on more meaning and depth.

Twilight Samurai and La tourneuse de pages. Both excellent films - and then I dug out my old copy of Sleuth (Caine/Olivier) to refresh before the release of the remake with Caine and Law.

Just saw "Cache" by Haneke. Liked it a lot. Beware, may not be for those who like the plot spelled out for them by the end of the film.

Can't say what film I enjoyed specially.
I'm in process of uploading all my DVD's to my Iomega harddrive.
To test each film if it's uploaded correct, I watch bits and pieces of all my DVD's at the moment.

I'm sure quite a few will cringe with what I'm about to say, but I do quite like the latest Bond movie - Casino Royale. I watched this today on BluRay via PS3 on BeoVision 4 and BeoLab 5.

Little Miss Sunshine, was a fantastic film. Great human touch to the story, and a hilarious ending.

One of our dogs loves watching TV, her favourites are Meercat Manour, and Over The Hedge. We have got her Open Season for Christmas.
