Can I control my B&O and non-B&O with Beo4 like Beo6
Hi guys,
I have a new Beo6 from more than 1 month but, even if I tried, I don't get used to it.
I don't feel it as intutive as the beo4 to control my B&O and non-B&O products.
So, if I decide to ask my dealer to take it back, could you please tell me if I can do the same things with beo4 as with the beo6?
Will I be able to control my PS3 slim (with RE-BL dongle), TVIX Slim S1 Duo HD and my Apple TV 2 as do it today with my beo6?
Or will it be very complicated?
Let me know please.

Yes and no. Beo4 can`t transmit third party codes, only Beo codes. So you have to use the PUC and select MENU (or GO) to access buttons like Info, channel list, epg...

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your reply.
I already use the PUC with my beo6 or my beo4.
The all 3 non-B&O products connected to my BV10 have IR stuck on them and connected to the PUC ports.
What do you mean exactly?

Re: Can I control my B&O and non-B&O with Beo4 like Beo6
As all your devices are PUC controlled it should be no problem to control them with Beo4 similiar to Beo6.
The main difference are buttons like epg, info, menu... On your Beo6 you have one button to press - named exactly what it does - With Beo4 you have to press MENU (or GO) and a number. It`s a two button function.
My experience is that it takes some time to get used to Beo5/6, but after a while it works great.
I recommend to keep the Beo6 for a while and try to get used to it.

The Beo5/6 can also be programmed to control third party devices directly, not only through your PUC.
Ask Keith for more info.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I didn't know the beo6 could control 3rd party products without using the PUC.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your answer.
I'll go on trying to get used to it.
I thought it would have been more intuitive/reactive, but it's not compared to the beo4.
To be continued...

Re: Can I control my B&O and non-B&O with Beo4 like Beo6
Have you tried looking at the Lintronic system? Basically I understand you can control any non B+O item with the Beo4 remote. I'm looking into this idea.
Beosound 8, Beotalk 1100, Beocom 4, A8 Headphones, Form 2 Headphones, Apple iPhone 4S, iPod Classic, iPad 1, Sky+ HD, Sony Playstation 3, Jacob Jensen T10, Lutron Rania IR Dual Dimmer/ Accesory dimmer, B+O A9 Keyring (SOLD), Beolit 600 (SOLD), Apple Airport Express, Beo5

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I thought about Lintronic system, but as I don't own the house were I live today, I can't (and don't want to) spend a lot of money with such an advanced system.
I think I will have to go on getting used to the Beo6 as the beo4 doesn't allow the same 1 button shortcuts as the beo6 do.

Re: Can I control my B&O and non-B&O with Beo4 like Beo6
Edouard,
I fully agree with the answers provided to you in this thread, but would make clear the following points so that there is no misunderstanding:-
- The Beo5 and Beo6 CAN control 99.9% of third party products DIRECTLY PROVIDED an XML control file has been made for that 3rd party product.
- B&O has a policy of ONLY supporting 3rd party products DIRECTLY where they are partner companies as listed below.
- B&O has a PUC library of hundreds of 3rd party products which a dealer can download to the PUC in your Beovision TV
- Many people do find using the Beo5 or Beo6 more difficult than the Beo4 normally because they have used the Beo4 for many years. One dealer recently told me that all his new customers love the Beo5/6 and apparently have no problems, but those who upgrade from a Beo4 to Beo5/6 are the ones who have issues. For many, its familiarity of the Beo4 which causes the problem.
- Having said what I did above, correctly setting up the Beo5/6 is also key to its success and using the B&O default positioning of buttons is often not that useful to the user, but can be quickly changed. For example, B&O by default puts all partner company entries in the "Scene" screen which in most cases is not very useful, but can be quickly changed, but often is not.
So, I would look carefully at the current configuration of your Beo6 and ask yourself what needs to change or get moved to make it more user friendly for you and then get those changes implemented by your dealer.
Below is a list of B&O's current partner companies where B&O has produced XML files which DIRECTLY control their products:-
Air-conditions Daikin - BRC4C152 Daikin - BRC4C159 Daikin - Econo Cool Fujitsu-Siemens – AR-RY13 LG – 6711A90022N Mitsubishi – KM05E Sanyo – RCS-8PS3E
Automation Systems Amplituda BtiCino Busch-Jaeger Clipsal Future Automation Lutron - Homeworks Merten Niko PEHA

Shades and Curtains Faber – Rollo ELC300 G-Rail – 6000 series Hunter Douglas Shades Velux – WLR 100 50 02 Velux – WUR 101 5001

Re: Can I control my B&O and non-B&O with Beo4 like Beo6
@ Keith
Thanks a lot for your reply Keith.
I understand that being a Beo4 user for years, I need time to get used to my beo6.
I will check what I don't like in the beo6 config so that my dealer change it.
Cheers,
