jandyt: Seems like we might be on the same drugs Seriously though, Do you think Piercepd is actually Paul Potts? I know his name is Paul. Adny T.
You've lost me! - who is Paul Potts (sorry if I'm missing something obvious)??

Paul Potts was a virtually unknown Carphone Warehouse salesman til two or three weeks ago. On Tv he shocked the country by singing Nessun Dorma beautifully and won a place in front of HRH the queen in tomorrow's Royal Variety Performance. Piercepd sings opera.

Medogsfat: There are very few American artsits who can really be classed as globally influential. Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground are a couple who spring to mind. The majority of them spew out the same old mid Atlantic light rock which is great for insomniacs. British music on the other hand has always stood apart by its constant refusal to pander to the masses simply to shift shed loads of records. The beauty is that the best of these artists actually achieve the sales because of this non-conformist attitude. Dare I add that the British public have a more sophisticated musical pallet than our stateside cousins? Chris.
In so many instances I agree - but where would the Beatles/Stones have started had it not been for Chuck Berry or Buddy Holly?? Obviously the whole post punk thing was English (Caberet Voltaire, Human League, Gary Numan, OMD etc.) - just as well they didn't listen to Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream! My thoughts are that British bands have managed to take in a whole range of influences from different genres and mould them into something "new" that appealed to the masses. The US scene (to me - and please speak up if you are from America) seems much happier to sit in within boundaries and entertain (the much larger) masses who appreciate a particular type of music - country being the genre that immediately springs to mind. To me there are young artists and bands in the US who are happy to churn out music in the "Jim Reeves" genre (and while there is still a market who can blame them) but I find it slghtly disturbing that there are teenagers in the US who are happy with this and "don't wear chains and spit at establishment" - after all most who did in the late Seventies are now in charge of small parts of the world (except some in the US who loved Country music and are now in charge of the majority).

That'll explain it! I won't watch any "Factors, Brothers, Jungles or any other "almost a Celebrity" or "like to be a Celebrity" type programmes on TV - they either give me Hives or induce vomiting.

Just to throw a spanner in the works - the speed of light is a bit of a
myth. Scientists have actually slowed it down to less than 30 mph at
near to absolute zero temparatures so all you'd really need is some
very good thermals. Wow!! So, in theory, a 1985 Lada Riva 1200L - designed to start at temperatures lower than absolute zero anyway in deepest Russia, can effectively stand a chance of travelling faster than the speed of light (once it's warmed up and you've pushed the choke in) ?? Wow... this forum never ceases to provide me with factoids!

Piece of cake for a Riva! - Just pull the choke out so far it touches the back window, pump the throttle, and turn the key whilst sliding your bum from side to side on the vinyl seats to keep it warm.

I marched off to the "posts pending approval" room and approved it. It's because it had the word "ess ee ex" in it.. Our spam filters are stricter than strict - but thats one of the reasons we don't ever get spammed! Remember the ones that used to get through almost daily on the old forum? Lot's were spotted and nuked immediately by moderators, but i do miss being offered Russian Love from a Thai Bride with pills that made you a love god in a strange kinda way.
