    BeoCenter 9500 problem

    Hi all,

On this BC9500 - when adjusting the volume up or down, a distorted "bleep" is heard. No matter which source is selected.

    Any ideas?

    Hello Menahem,

    Is it on both channels?

I would suspect the 54IC3 / TC9177 as a source. It's located after the input source switch.

Probably hard to get - I never ran across that one. Internet tells it's a Toshiba. Looks like a digitally controlled pot only.

    Eventually 54IC1 (right) or IC2 (left)/ 4558 that's actually creating the attentuation.

And I never had a BC9500 - now it's the first on my wishlist meanwhile...

I suppose you have the SM - if not, let me know.

I have a mediocre copy of the SM - if you have really clear one, that would be great,

Yes, I see this IC - I'll check it.

If you find a 9500, make sure that the laser works fine at 50mV. If the laser current has been boosted, it will become a beautiful doorstop very soon. There are NO new lasers available anywhere.

Seems like the time to get even...

I have an original SM on paper but not scanned (yet). Now that's the perfect time to start with...

Thanks for the laser tip. Still very far from getting a BC9500 as they are either expensive or mechanically spoiled Sad

Plenty of scrappers around to nick a laser from.

    Re: BeoCenter 9500 problem

I've got a nice pile of scrap CDM2 lasers, which I thought I could warehouse for when needed in BG5500's, BC8500's, BC9500's etc. No luck. There are more dead scrap lasers than good scrap lasers out there. Unfortunately.

Tread carefully before parting with your hard-earned cash on used CDM2's - there's no guarantee that the lasers are good.
