    RL60 metal plate

Today I have "reclothed" a pair of RL60's. When I opened the cabinet, a metal plate was loose inside the speaker cabinet.

I wonder how this metal plae was attached to the cabinet. I can't find out how it was fixed???? The only way was straight on the cloth?

Please help if you know how it was fixed. Thanks!

Sorry guys, I think I know the answer myself. A sort of cardboard must have been used that was glued both to the metal plate and frame. But where is the cardboard? There was a lot of rubbish inside when I opened it. That could not be the cardboard was it?

Thanks Mika, have seen these threads (not thoroughly though) but I saw pictures where extra speakers has been added in this metal plate. Was that the purpose of this plate to cut holes for new drivers?

    Re: RL60 metal plate

    Leslie,

never seen drivers in that plate. There are 2 versions of RL60:

One had the ABR Mika mentioned. Looks like that's the one you have: The plate was the radiator and had a foam "ring" like a driver unit. Almost all of those are rotten nowadays.

There was a fix with another plate a little bigger instead that had a sort of plastic tube glued onto and no more foam rings. It was screwed firmly into the frame.

The debris inside of your RL's are the remainders of the foam. It is very hard as the softener disappeared with time. I had a lot of it in my RL60's although they have already been retrofitted with the bigger tube-plates before I got them.

There is a thread somewhere with nice pictures where I learned this beside looking into my RL60s. Had to search toughly to find it. Maybe someone has a pointer and remembers...

       Gunther

EDIT: found a picture of my non-ABR version:

BTW: The red cloth matches the "redlines" much better than some fabric-selector-retrofitted M70's Stick out tongue

    Here are two approaches:

    http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/25024.aspx

    http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/26823.aspx

Never tried either myself. There was also a third one on an external site which replaced the original ABR with two more conventional round passive radiators, but that site seems to have gone unfortunately.

One of the lucky ones via this thread

I think he still sells it on Ebay UK. Not sure though...

The red really looks classy, next one will be dark blue. The cloths have been bought in the US, almost similar as the original ones.

Did a lot of CX50's and 100's. Now I have the feeling how to do the embossing the proper way on the RL's with these cloths.

Next project, and I'm in the last stage now, are making glass touch panels for the Beomaster 4500 incl. printing and touch sensitivityBig Smile

    Re: RL60 metal plate

Thanks, they called straps Embarrassed i saw he sells them on his site for 15 GBP shipping included.   Yes, I will refoam the CX100 this week or so. I replace the cloth of the frets because some of them got holes at the corners. I will look for silvery cloth or black cloth with silver wires in it. I think it looks nice with the black cx's

Gunther, does this "radiator" has a function in the speakersystem? What does it do? Thought it was ment for a later upgrading with new drivers.

    Re: RL60 metal plate

It is a radiator that works in the very same way as the ones on the BL2 and BL3. They are basically just passive radiators that react to the change in pressure inside the cabinet, as a result they move more air oustside the cabinet transmitting more sound. They are used to increase the bass.

Didn't you read the links at all? The plate corresponds to the cone of a driver. It needs to be able to move.
