    Beocord 2000K reel to reel

    Hi All,

I've picked one of these up very cheaply - it seems to work fine playing pre-recorded tapes but I really don't have a clue what most of the slider controls and inputs do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated or does anyone know where I can get a user manual for this?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    Thanks Martin - that's brilliant.

Mine isn't a Deluxe model but there doesn't look a lot of difference -split faders on the diagram I think. It sounds fantastic on the tape that came with it plus it was supplied with 15 blank new/sealed tapes of similar vintage

One other question - probably down to me not understanding what the 2000K can do - I have tried to play a couple of tapes recorded on my Sony TC630 and they play backwards and sound distant as if I've got the tape on wrong. I'm guessing its the head alignment but I dont know - the Sony recorded 2 track stereo so they should play.

Sorry if I sound like a total novice here... Confused

Callout 2 on the first diagram is a button to select between 2 and 4 tracks.
I suggest you try this with your Sony tapes.

Ah... thought that might be the answer - but my 2000K doesn't have that button.... Huh?

OK, then try winding the tape to the other end and start playing from there.

The button was only on the Deluxe version. Try what Martin suggested. You can actually play two track tapes on a four track recorder (they thought of that when developing four track). The other way around is not possible.

Tried that too. Have also tried tapes recorded on a mono Grundig and a mono Philips, all of similar vintage and all do the same. However, one thing I'm wondering... I am playing the output via the line out to an amplifier at the moment, not to speakers so I was wondering if the line out routing is different.

Thanks for the suggestions - very much appreciated.

I thought the 2000K was a 4 track (at least 2 tracks either direction) so it should play the Sony tapes recorded in stereo on 2 tracks. I understand this model was a development of the Stereomaster 610K http://beocentral.com/beocordstereomaster610k  - looks just what I've got in front of me Smile

    Thanks again

Ah just read the spec properly - maybe I do have the 2 track version after all... not sure how I can tell though Erm

Re: Beocord 2000K reel to reel

You can look at the tapeheads. If there is a gap between the two track elements of apprx the
same size as the elements themselves, you have a 4-track.
If the elements are close together, covering almost the entire tape width, it's a 2-track.

A tape recorded on a mono machine will typically have one track playing fine with the other track
    playing something else in reverse.
On a stereo machine, you must then play only one channel at a time, typically the left one.

Having said that, there were uncommon recording formats around that will only play correct on the same type of
    machine that recorded the tape.

Thanks for this scan Martin. I have a DeLuxe which I found in the electronics thrash dumpster where I live. After replacing the pinch roller, it plays fine but I couldn't check all functions as I didn't know what all buttons did.
