Re: Beogram 4000 arm motor noise

Just compared the 4000 to the 8000 and the latter was definately noisier!

If I can find my external microphone I will try to get a video clip some time!

    Really?

My Beogram 8000 carriage is very quiet, much more so than my 4000 and 4002 decks! Of course, not in normal operation, but manually moving in or out in fast mode!

When playing a record I can't hear the motors at all.

I too use either Singer oil or teflon grease (not oil). What is the special worm screw lubricant?

Re: Beogram 4000 arm motor noise

Here is a small video recorded on my iPhone of my Beogram 4000. It's not completely silent as you may hear. The big click is when the electronic switches from 45 rpm to 33 rpm - some sort of relay I guess. The carriage noise which you may not hear is probably due to the carriage motor's wheel not being completely centered (it wobbles a little) and the rubber belt could perhaps be tighter. Anyway, it works great as it is. Seeing this baby in action when open, almost makes me whet :-)

I'm a little concerned about electrolytic capacitor number two from the right which seems a little leaked. However, the thing works. I have no idea what it is good for, though:

It is certainly much, much quieter than mine.

Re: Beogram 4000 arm motor noise

I have been using carrs micro-grease which is 'a flouro-silicon based compound containing no hydrocarbons or solvents' (whatever that means!) designed with low sheer and high tenacity ideal for worm gears and small cogs. Made for model railway trains etc...

Seems to work fine but I am not sure if it responsible for noise reduction.

The distance between the detector arm and the platter is supposed to be 13 mm but on mine it's 15 mm. I can't seem to loosen the nut as described in the service manual. Any tricks?

Edit: Fixed! I didn't know the small adjustment screws in the nut bearing should be loose first.

My 4000 is a bit odd, have a look at the red speed indicators when running without a record and running with a 7":

My 4002 is louder in carriage motor noise, not a surprise

My two Beogram 8002's, the first is a bit louder

It looks like it operates normally.

However, I have a small belt problem. My belt seems to run very unstable on the side to the right of the motor but only in 33 rpm mode and it creates quite a bit of noise. Any suggestions? It seems that if I pull the floating suspension away from me that it is more stable.

Re: Beogram 4000 arm motor noise

Nice vids Soren! The 45 indicator is absolutely normal, and only changes when a record is present! My players are about the same as yours noise wise. Maybe my 8000 is a little quieter than your 8002's.

The motor pulley height needs adjusting relative to the platter

The motor pulley height needs adjusting relative to the platter

Before addjusting the pulley, check for correct platter higth.

Re: Beogram 4000 arm motor noise

I already did that, and it's not because the belt is touching anything. It just vibrates a lot on the right side to the motor, coming from the platter it seems. However the belt is absolutely on the middle of the motor pulley.

Is the platter correctly centered, (suspension)

Maybe not entirely - it looks like the platter should be moved a little to the right. I don't know how to fix it :-(

I dont know exactly for your model, but normaly you will have to move the pieces where the suspention springs are hooked up, the manual will have a desciption of it.

It was indeed the belt. I changed it with the one from my other Beogram 4000 and now it works perfectly.
