    Beogram 4000 - Doesn't move across

    Hello all,

after a a period of some months, I tried to play some records on my Beogram 4000 with no success.

The tone arm does not move across!  I removed the aluminium plates and I saw that the motor doesn't turn.  I measured the voltsge on the cable motors and is 0 Volts?

Do you have any idea about this?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Vassilis Anagnostopoulos

I assume all other signs of life seem ok? What happens when you press the [on] key.

I always look at the transistor H bridge (the four metal-can transistors with accompanying drivers) if the motor shows no signs of life. It is a good place to start! if they are ok then check control signals, supplies etc but this deck is a complicated beast and not the best project to start if you are initially stumped!

The service manual has a good fault finding chart so join up and download!

    Hello Olly,

    and thanks for the reply.

When I press the [ON] key, absolutely nothing happens.  On the other hand when I press the [33] key then the plate rotates normally.

I already have the service manual of the deck and I have checked the fault finding chart.  Unfortunatelly my knowledge on electronics is very limited and I have stacked.

Can you tell me where is this transistor H bridge located? How can I check if this is working properly?

    Thanks in advance

    Vassilis

Maybe it's a blown fuse? They are placed under the greyish plastic cover in the left upper corner.

ok try carefully advancing the carriage by turning its screw wheel, say, to just before the start of a 33 record (you can do this without a record or cartridge ideally!) and then plug in, see what happens.

    Lights? Main motor? Anything?

I moved the carriage by turning the screw as you said and then plug-in, but absolutely nothing is happening!

Of course if I press again the [33] key then the plate rotates and the strobe light flashes.

    @filip_kgh

    The fuses are fine!

Sorry I seem to have sent you on a bit of a goose-chase there... I would check that the on switch is actually doing it's job by checking continuity otherwise you really will have to follow the fault chart & diagram I think...
