Beosound 5 set up question
I am setting up my new Beosound 5. I made all of the connections and plugged the unit in. The screen came on with the initial set up menu. Before I could do anything with it the menu disappeared and the screen went blank. All it does now is the red standby light flashes. Any thoughts?
I can call the dealer tomorrow of course but they are closed for the day now.

Re: Beosound 5 set up question
Weird, after staring at a blank screen for an hour, all of a sudden it came to life properly

It's like adopting a cat. It has to get used to the place.
There is scarcely anything in this world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey. - John Ruskin

LOL That seems like exactly what it was. Now if I can just get the wireless adapter to work. Unfortunately my router is on a different floor in the house and to run an ethernet cable would require multiple holes in multiple walls. Wireless adapter has software that needs to be installed so I guess I need to connect an external CD/DVD drive to the Beomaster and install the software?

Re: Beosound 5 set up question
Have you considered "Ethernet over mains"?
Used it a few times and seems a good solution.

Re: Beosound 5 set up question
As an alternate to a wireless adapter, use a wireless network bridge and connect to the ethernet port on the Beomaster 5. I am using an airport express as a wireless bridge. Other inexpensive wireless routers can function as a bridge. Cisco and Linksys are the brands that I have tried. There are others
If you use an wireless adapter on the Beomaster 5, you will need to attach a keyboard and monitor to the Beomaster and install the driver as is normally done in Windows XP.
I hope this helps.

It is a way of using your house electrical wiring to transmit ethernet data. This is not usually done in the US but does work.

I am using an Airport Extreme as a base. Are you saying all I need to do is connect an Airport Express to the Beomaster 5?

Yes! Use the ethernet port on the Airport Express and then plug the cable into the BM5. Setup the AE to join a wireless network by entering the name of the wireless network of the Airport Extreme. I use WPA2 personal for security which matches the setting I use on the AE. I have been running this way for almost 2 years.

Re: Beosound 5 set up question
Once again, Apple works. After fighting with a non-Appple wifi adapter with no luck, tried Airport Express and had success quickly.

Re: Beosound 5 set up question
Beosound 5 is up and running. It is wonderful. Sound is much better than the sound from the iMac I had been using for Net Music.
