I'm about to move into a new house shortly, so being a bloke the first bit of furniture that is coming off our meager furniture fund is of course, the TV :-)))

 

Question. If you had about £3,000 and you wanted a second hand B&O tv with HD what would you have? I have seen a few 8's with its 40inc full HD 100hz screen and yes that is appealing. But i have also seen a few 32 inch 7's for about the right figure. Marketed as HD are they full HD. This would be by far what i would be looking for. I have seen a 40 inch 7 in a mk 2 format for about £4,000. This would always be my tv of choice so if i sleep on the floor and use the tv box as a sofa i would stretch to this. In its mk2 format wuld the 7 be a full HD tv?

 

Anyway over to you and your greater knowledge.

Frankly spoken 7-32/40 are really excellent even in non HD versions (actually never understood the big difference when in DVB-T) and already use one 7-32 in my bedroom.

BUT as a value for money, I would go probably for the newer 8-40. I'm sure with this money you will also get DVB-T and ML (for future use)!!!

Hi, in answer to your question Mk1 and Mk2 7-40 are not full HD i.e. 1080P.

The 8-40 does not have ML as standard.

If considering purchasing a TV at that price level then take advice from any one of the three principal pre-owned resellers (in the world I guess!)

£4000 is top money, you should also consider a MK1 HD.  Depending on whether you want a motorised floor stand or a 7-1/7-2 speaker you can purchase for around the £3250 mark from morethanAV, which I represent (7-40 MK1 HD, 7-1, motor floor stand).

However see what all of the pre-owned Companies can offer and what advice they can give you, if you go for a full HD 7-40 MK3 onwards the prices jump!

Well you are probably right and of course this is why I mentioned my self Value for Money since the 8-40 is cheaper, has intergraded speakers and the ML module should cost no more than 100 euros (new) but usually is already installed in most of them. First choice would be 7-32/40 but still a big difference in the value!

What about the new Beovision 10 - 32 ?

I think it would be a price issue there!!!! Unless there is a special price!!!

I've heard people say that the Mk1/2 720p versions of the 7-40 handle SD input better than the newer 1080 panels. Can anyone confirm this? I would tend to go for the new BV8-40 but the lack of a motorised table or floor stand would be a problem if you are used to that facility. You should be aware that the newer TV's offer much better connectivity for digital sources than B&O's first generation LCD's.

As said i would prefer a full HD tv so i guess the 8 is really the only choice. I am struggling to convince the wife who doesn't think it looks like a B&O tv should, especially at £3,000 ie special. Why shouldn't i buy the the Samsung at £1,000?. I have a good sound system already! I am normally loyal to a brand that through its ancestory has proven itself over the years but who knows this time!

From a picture quality point of view, the 7-40, 7-55, 8-40, 10-32, 10-40 and 10-46 are all significantly ahead of the 7-32, especially when comparing HD images (which is where the 7-32 still really, REALLY struggles IMO).

I'd personally choose a 10-32 over a 7-32 any day for the picture, even taking the differences in features into account...
