Hello fellow Beoworlders, I am wondering which tape, you normally use with your beocords

I am using the new series of TDK SA-90's, and my parents' old Maxell UDXLII's, and soon some TDK MA Metal tapes

The ones that I happen to have. I think I last bought cassettes in 1990 or so

...and they were mostly TDK SA-X type II it seems, still have a couple in wrappers. Others that have held up well have been Maxell UD-II, Sony UCX-S and from the cheaper ones, Sony HF-ES. I have plenty of Dolby C recordings done on my JVC KD-D50 from 1982 on, and most of them still play great on my B&O decks - and of course the JVC, I still have it.

Hehe, those SA-X are nice tapes, just ordered 40 very cheap assorted chrome tapes, mostly TDK and Maxell

Maxell XL II, great tape!

Maxell UD XLII's were always my tape of choice. I still have a few recordings from the 80's that play well even today.

The UDXLII's are great tapes, I listen to some tapes recorded in 1983/84 on a Beocord 8004 and they still sounds like new on my Beocord 9000

I may be wrong, but I am fairly sure that my old dealer told me that Maxell tapes were more abrasive than most others. I always use TDK myself - usually SA, SA-X or similar.

TDK SA when possible - I didn't find much improvement with MA - the problem comes with concerts lasting longer than 50 minutes. The auto reverse BeoCord 5500 is a boon in terms of time as the turnover is so fast, but it doesn't (to my ears) quite equal the BC9000. Personally, I didn't like the Maxell 120 chrome tapes, so for longer recordings I tend to use TDK D. I did try the TDK D 180 once, but couldn't 'calibrate' it with the BC9000 and it stretched when fast-wound.

I still find the sound from tape very good when recording broadcast concerts, though a digital hard drive is more convenient - record for hours, then sort out the division onto CDs or cassette tapes later! But the BeoCords with timers are a great advantage for recording when out at work.
