Beovision AV9000 switches off after 5 mins of viewing.

Hi, need some advice, I have an AV9000 which has been a joy, had it for 15 years now, and last year the TV decided to pack up, basically wouldn't power on. Now the TV has started to turn itself off after a few minutes (5 mins) of viewing. Is this a common fault or just the age of the TV and sadly time to give up and replace the TV? Just seems that repairing it now every 12 months isn't going to be economical.

If I do replace, any recommendations, I want to keep the speakers (Penta 3 and 8000), but I guess the masterpanel would need to go.

    Hi Adatia,

Starting from the end, the Master panel can work with newer systems with a small trick. A BO tech can put it in test mode (I don't remember the way but contact me and will send you the instructions).

Of course your Pentalabs and 8000 can work with any TV as long as it has a 5.1.

I already have an AV9000 my self that I enjoy every day. I would assume there is a power failure internally from the (can't remember the word!!!!!!)

Concerning the replacement it's a matter of taste and

    Budget.

    Hope my comments help.

    Best regards

This has been covered in a post earlier this year and the cause was a simple dry solder joint which took 30 minutes to find and rectify.  Don't give up on your AV9000 for the sake of a few pounds if it's your joy.

    Hi Spiros,

Can you tell me what that trick is. Since I have 4 of these units I 'm really curious..

Have tried before to connect the Masterpanel directly to an Avant and it was playing but unfortenately no display functions on the masterpanel.

    Thanks, Leslie

Thanks Spiros, that is useful. I am debating the repair, but also considering purchasing a used one. It looks terrific and I have the usual fla panels in other rooms, but, this setup has always been special. Its just the practicality and economics of repair. The last time cost £500 including pickup and delivery.

Agreed - I am now inclined to go for the repair again. I'll search for the post as well. If there's a link for the service manual anywhere that would be helpful. Thanks again for the posts!

Hi Leslie and Adatia, It was an advice from my friend Ulf and it worked directly without any problems. You have to connect (bridge) the pins 4 & 6 in the Master control Panel which for B&O is the test mode. It works like a charm!!! Hope this helps. Best regards Spiros

Spiros, thank you for sharing these hintfull tips!

One more question though about the Masterpanel , does that mean the functionality of the display and keyboard can be used?

To the original poster (adatia)- where are you?.  If you're in the South of the UK, I may be able to give you the number of someone who can come to your house to look at it.  He's done this already with another AV9000 owner who was going to sell hers as non-working but he fixed it in 30mins.

    Hi Spiros,

To good to be true, it did not work! Made the link on the ML connector internally as you said (4 and 6) but no control and display on the Masterpanel. In fact, it doesn't make any difference with or without the link. It can be controlled via the Avant though but not by the Masterpanel itselfSad Did I missed something beside soldering a link?

Re: Beovision AV9000 switches off after 5 mins of viewing.

hmmmmm. For me it was a 1 minute job after removing the back plate of the MCPAV. I'm not quite sure why this happened but also other people confirmed this to me that it worked for them. Maybe you can contact our member Ulf directly (usually posting on the German section) and discuss it with him. But as mentioned previously, this is also a standard procedure for the B&O Technicians as well when a Master Panel is brought for service (they cannot have the AV9000 as well!!!!!!).
