    B&O Record Changers

    Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone here has (or has ever seen/used) one of the old B&O record changers, such as the "S 507 LP", which is pictured in some of the B&O classic product posters and is even listed here on BeoWorld?  Does anyone know anything about it, or any of the other older changers?  While I thoroughly enjoy using my modern B&O (ranging from the 70's through current), I also love to look at and learn about a lot of vintage products as well.  I've enjoyed following the "restoration" threads on here, but have never seen one for one of the older turntables.

I don't think I would ever put one of my "good" records on any changer, but I guess their mechanical design and mechanisms have always intrigued me!  Some of the early changers from many makes were quite ingenious.  I found a swedish record changer sight recently (http://hem.passagen.se/sodas/vxarteng.htm), and noticed a picture of an old Philips changer.  It looks very similar to the picture of the B&O "S 507 LP" changer, and I wondered if they were the same, or related?

Thanks, and hope everyone is enjoying their equipment, both old and new!

    Re: B&O Record Changers

Lovely to see a thread about the vintage stuff.
My mother, aged 84, has a B&O record changer built in
to a large piece of homemade furniture.
She rarely uses it but it's great fun to see when she does.
The handling of the records as they are changed is a bit rough and
the amount of wow (pitch fault) increases drastically as more and more
records slide on top of eachother. There's not a lot of friction
between two records, let alone 6 or 8.
Kids and teenagers are speechless when it plays.  Laughing

The mechanics are extraordinary. Her changer will accept records of different
    sizes, also mixed.

B&O made several different versions, some built-in to the large radiograms, some
as a separate piece of console furniture and others as decks only for fitting
    into existing cupboards etc.

Our product guide leaves a bit to be desired in the vintage sections, I will work a bit harder
on this when I get the time but here is a little selection for your viewing pleasure:

I never could decide whether I consider these '40s-'50s record players as lovely or butt-ugly. Nevertheless, I enjoy the pictures!

Martin: Thanks for the reply, and for sharing the pics (those are cool)!  Have you ever worked on or restored one of these?

Step1: Yes, I would like to see one work too, especially in person!

Here in the U.S., we don't typically see products older than the 70's, and I personally have never seen any products here older than the 60's.  I understand that B&O didn't sell many products outside of Denmark back then, and Bang and Olufsen of America wasn't formed until ~1970, so this makes since, but still, I wish we had more vintage B&O here in the States.
