I'm afraid the prognosis isn't too good, because
- if the repairguy knew what he was doing, he probably would've repaired the CD and not put it in a box!
- if he didn't know what he was doing, he might have fiddled with the settings and actually killed the laser.
So, expect the worst and adjust your top price accordingly...
When I bought my Beocenter 8000, the CD (of course) didn't work, and the seller said (of course) that nobody had attempted to repair it. When I delved in there, I found that some capacitors had actually been replaced but never soldered in place(!) and of course the laser was dead... I got lucky and found a complete spare part module on fleaBay six months later.
