Pictures of rarities and older things.

With the success of the Flash your B&O thread I thought it would be nice to see some of the lovely older bits of equipment that the members on here have. Particularly the older things say pre BM900. So if you are displaying a Dirigent or enjoying a Jet, please take a picture so we can enjoy it.

    And some more oldies.

I have a nice Capri TV, Beolab 5000, Beomaster 5000, Bovox 5000 and cube speakers which are going to Classic Audio for restoration soon.  I have a real mish-mash of stuff! including video camera etc.  I just can't stop!

One of my favourites, and I promise to stop now!.  As you said post 900, I haven't included the fully fit and complete 900RG but I use it daily.

The Radiograms are great. I use my Compact quite a lot. The only thing I have that just gets in to the pre BM900 period although only just is a pair of Type B speakers. I dont think their too rare but their not that common either.

I like the Type B's - almost bought me a pair for my 900M, but the price got silly and I gave up. Reviewing the seller feedback later, seemed I made a good decision...

@Dave, I see you have a Master 38K as well - saves me from taking a picture that shows it better Big Smile

EDIT: Oh, this view might still be interesting.

    Cool thread!

Here's my Jet Present 607 that was the subject of (I think) Martin's first photo documentary restoration. I was lucky enough to get the set afterwards :)

    Eddie,

I'm in the East, about 8km outside of Belfort.  It's quite near the French/Swiss/German border.  I work in Basel, Switzerland but can't afford to live there.  With the B&O, pinball machines, my woodturning hobby and a teenage daughter - yes, EDF do appreciate my contribution.

I hope more people add to this as there are some wonderful pieces on show already and there must be more.  The Jet Present 607 looks stunning.

    Dave.

You are strategically well placed straddeling 3 borders as a collecter. (I am 50km north of Nimes when ever I get the time to get there) There must indeed be more people with great collections in Beoworld.

Just remembered this thread, which would've been more suited for this:

As Dillen said in the other thread, I apparently have incorrect knobs (is that a Beolit 41 on top of the cabin in one your pics as well, Dave?), and they should be white. However, they seem very old and match the set well!

Yes it is Mika but it's non-operational (at the moment).  I think the darker knobs blend in nicely on yours..

I would have thought more may have been added to this thread as there must be lots of old B&O systems out there.  Nobody has shown off their 5000 system set-ups either which is a shame..

    Dave.

Re: Pictures of rarities and older things.

    Nice photos !
That's one very clean set indeed. Looks recently dusted.
This was the last valve model from B&O and the one with most refined circuitry, top
    of the range.
That makes it even more funny that they made a typo on the label Present/Precent.

The lack of sensitivity that we spoke about could easily be caused by the frontend valve.
They are not known to be particularly long-lived and this set still has its original valve
    in place, it seems.

Re: Pictures of rarities and older things.

I was actually cleaning the set while taking the photos, but even before I started it was very, very clean.

    I hadn't noticed the Present/Precent -typo! Laughing

Is front-end valve the one in the photos, the ECC85? That sounds familiar, I might even had some (some years ago I got a small lot of valves, most look like NOS, will check again). I am not sure if it's lacking in sensitivity, I can tune into a lot of channels, this place doesn't seem to have too good reception with any radio anyway, and the only channels that I can't receive properly are the ones I'd like to listen to! I'll see if I can get another frontend valve and see if it makes any difference. The old one with B&O-logo will make a nice piece of decoration! Stick out tongue

Main problem now is the little crackle/static in the left channel. Marin, per your PM, I cleaned the valve pins (the ones I could reach without taking the chassis out) but it didn't help to this. It's present in all sources but easily lost into music but pretty annoying when using line-in. It's not controllable using volume pot (on min. it does mute completely, though).

Re: Pictures of rarities and older things.

Yes, the ECC85 is the one.
It's very easy to replace the valve and see if it helps.

Crackling is normally caused by oxidated contacts expanding, even if ever so slightly, as the
set warms up. Valve pins and the pushbutton switches are main suspects but other things can also
cause the fault. A hint of DC voltage that comes and goes on an output valve grid will make a noise
(leaky coupling capacitor) or an intermittent change of amplification (cathode decoupling capacitor).
Finally, it can be the preamp or one of the output stage valves.
Wiggle the valves gently while the set is playing and bad contacts are easily revealed.
This is not a resto-thread so we mustn't get carried away here.  Wink

Yeah, sorry. We can have this a a general tip on valve sets while we are on the topic. Embarrassed

The Dirigent apparently was not designed with on-the-floor photography in mind. Anyway, here's the result after half an hour of cosmetic work. Wish it was always this easy! The technical part of the business is in this thread .

    Drool Mika :)

Wish we had more of these here in the UK - would love a B&O valve amp to go with my Jet Present 607 valve radio.
