    MX5500 BM4500 options question

    I want to use an MX5500 with a BM4500 and a pair of P45s in a bedroom.

The TV and BM will be connected via the their respective AUX sockets and the P45s connected to the BM4500.

If I set the BM4500 to option 2 (displays 2.5) and the MX5500 to option 0  with its speakers set to External then sound comes from the P45s connected to the BM4500 as expected but when I switch to TV I get the sound of the TV from the P45s but no picture.

If I set the BM4500 to option 0 (displays 0.5) and the MX5500 to option 2 then I must set its speakers to Internal to get any sound.  When I press TV the BM does not come on.  When I press radio then sound comes from then MX5500 and the BM4500 always mutes.

What are the proper option settings?

Is there a definative guide to the options?  There are bits and pieces in a few user guides but an overall guide would be nice...

Doesn't the MX5500 have connections to allow the P45's to be directly connected to the TV?

    Re: MX5500 BM4500 options question

Yes it does but I thought the amplifier in the BM4500 is more powerful.

    So I use A.OPT 0, V.OPT 2 and connect the speakers to the MX5500?

Yes, I believe the only "good" setup is having the speakers connected to the TV. The downer is that the amps in the MX aren't that great, and I wouldn't trust the quality of the audio routing circuitry that much either (so even active speakers wouldn't solve the whole problem)...

I once tried to setup my BS6500 (with passive Pentas) and MX6000 so that the TV sound would come automatically through the BS while audio functions would continue working normally. I never got it completely working - either the picture was missing or the TV turned needlessly on.

I'm not sure, but I remember there has been a SW issue for early MX5500/BM4500
and similar setups beeing not capable for a "full" A/V Opt.Setup 0/2
(the two digit readout e.g 0.5 or 2.5 indicates that it might be the old SW version)

SW versions of both units would help.

    Re: MX5500 BM4500 options question

    BM4500 has version 1.6

    MX5500 has version 2.2S

I read elsewhere on the forum that the BM4500 can be upgraded to version 2.2

Exactly what is the delta between 1.6 and 2.2?
