    ANNOUNCEMENT -- Update to Forum

Since the launch of the NEW Beoworld on 16th April 2007 the web site and forum have provided members with a lot of technical information and answers to their questions and problems. However, the moderating team were very aware that unless you were a regular visitor finding what you wanted could be time consuming and sometimes difficult to locate key pieces of data.

So, in 2010 we have decided to make two major updates to the forum with a view to providing general improvements and also resolving some of those issues. In preparation for these updates, we are also making some changes to the Theme (Look & Feel) of the forum.

Today at 6pm UK Time the "Theme" will be changed "On the Fly" meaning the forum will not go down, but the changes will be seen over a 2 minute period when your browser is refreshed or a new page is opened. If you are connected via a "Proxy Server" please use the "Refresh" button on your browser.

Whilst, to you, the change may only be seen as cosmetic, it does include a hugh amount of code (software) which will be used in the subsequent update which will be announced in the coming weeks.

Please use this thread to provide feedback, comment and any questions.

    Regards Keith....

    In addition...

We promised constant and continuous improvement - and here we are. Yes - thumbs up

By doing this upgrade, we are now able to get smack bang up to date with absolutely all of the very latest enhancements that Telligent offer, giving us new features and new ideas to play with.

I must offer sincere thanks to Keith and Van, who have made the technical and design sides of this possible. Without these two guys we'd be living in a virtual mud hut rubbing sticks together to get the server to work.

Please note before anyone raises the issue, I did forget to add the code which provides information on each post about who started the thread and how many times a thread has been viewed, but I will be adding it.

    Regards Keith....

EEK! I thought I'd entered the wrong site when this flashed upBig Smile

Like all new things it will be fine once we've played around for a while. I like the new graphics.

Looks great - well done guys.

Does this mean we'll be able to see if we've received a PM?

Don't forget to add the ads.

Yes, I'll like the looks after initial getting used to it, seems clear & concise in a good way.

I'm sure the features will keep evolving, but the one thing I miss already is the old "Forums" main page which allowed a look at the most recently active topic in every subforum.

(And please don't tell Flappo that animated avatars have been possible for a long time. Once every single post starts crawling, pedalling and flashing around I'll be gone Erm  )

Is the old 'Forums' main page coming back or is it gone forever? I found it really useful to see what the latest post was on each forum, particularly when using my iPhone to browse the site.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT -- Update to Forum

Individual posts seem to take up a lot more screen area - I can only view two posts at the most without scrolling - does anyone else find this an issue or is it one of those things we'll get used to?

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT -- Update to Forum

    Hmm.. First thing I looked for;
I miss the "My discussions" quick overview.

    Martin

    EDIT: I found it.
Obviously "My discussions" are now "Your discussions".
Any chance of setting the "Email me replies to this post" field to default off ?
Also the Membership type "stars" have gone.

The "who is online" page is a bit of a disaster!

Don't mind the avatars (but maybe smaller), but the old list based display was much, much easier to read and read quickly.

Looks ok, except for the 'Home' button. It has been wrongly assigned.

    Currently assigned to: http://forum.beoworld.org
    Should be: http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/default.aspx

    Currently assigned to: http://forum.beoworld.org
    Should be: http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/default.aspx

The HOME button is not incorrectly assigned and is the same as previously assigned.

The HOME button provides you with site activity, however under load it can give the error page intermittently due to the fact it times out because it takes to long to execute. The second press of the home button normally works.

I am looking at this issue with a view to stopping timeouts on this or at least making it much longer.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT -- Update to Forum

What I miss in this forum, and also missed in the old one, is:

1: The possibility to be taken to the newest unread post in a thread. As it is now I can read it from the beginning or the very latest post, but it can't show me the first post after my last visit.

2: Some links in the bottom of each thread to take me back to the forum that the thread is posted in, so when I have read the thread and I am at the bottom of the page, this link will take me back to for example the "General forum". Maybe also a link to take me to the forum overview.

Yes, but they will be back, the code on the old forum setup needs to be modified which I am writing at present and I am hoping to get it finished by tomorrow.
