For the purposes of honest comparison, in both of them there are now fresh components, but the circuit design in vintage equipment is so much more conducive to good sound.

My restored BM3400 will outperform a new BS9000 or anything else, in terms of what the ears prefer with the eyes closed. I embarass my customers every day (and make them smile).

Maybe I am wrong, but for me the actual charm of the brand are the vintage systems. This is like good wine, in general, the older,  the better, provided that they are from good years. Newer systems  probably sound better, have more fancy gadgets and stat-of-the-art applications,  but they lack this special taste and character  of vintage wine/systems. I think that they even have a soul!

[Warning: Pro-vintage oriented content] older Hi-fi may be of a better design than today. Think of all that "Made in China" stuff with tiny little surface mounted components and they tend to save money on their designs. The older stuff is repairable and reliable, and the designers/engineers put way much time into the product than often seen today.

Very early on in my membership of 'Beoworld', I raised the whole question of whether vintage B&O sounded better than the current crop of products (excluding the BL5 and, arguably, the BL9 from that discussion).  My experience of listening to an old BC 4000 from the 70s clearly indicated just how good old B&O is in comparison to some of the more modern pieces.  The responses from others on this site clearly indicated I was not alone! Here is a link to the thread.

Since then, nothing I have heard has changed my initial impression.  Purely from a sound quality point of view, very little of the current range compares favourably with some of the great older products available for a fraction of the price.  I appreciate the design purity of the BL4000 and BL 8000/8002 immensely and indeed, would like to own them, but whether they are better than my P45s, S45.2s or Mc120.2s - well, that's another story.

Found a Beocenter 9300 at a Red Cross shop, I just couln't pass it up. Almost mint condition and everything works, it even included a Beo4 remote! I have exeeded my storage capacity limit, some of my Beolab 8000 system must go [:'(]

You are  right Cleve. This impression wast just confirmed last week when I visited a friend of mine  and I discovered he bought recently a Beosound 4 (2100 eur). The touch was so plasticky,the weight of the whole system so light, the assembling so fragile and vulnerable... definitevely, I thought, this has no soul!

I've been permitted a little bit of shelf space in the lounge for items that would otherwise be in their boxes!

That's a great idea! It's like an in-house B&O musem display. I've often thought of doing something like that with all of my old B&O land-line telephones that I no longer use.

Henrik that system still looks so fresh even to my iPhone generation friends!  Wow that design was so ahead of its time - lovely, awesome in fact!

Great products you have there, I have them all myself. The Beomaster 6000/Beocord 8000 series is a great match and that 4400 shure will outperform many other receivers

Yes they are really brilliant in both look and sound , now only need new speakers :) considering M70 or s45 ( 3 way ones ) to match with BM4400

I would reccomend Beovox S-75's, I am using a pair and they are really good. Replaced all capacitors in the crossovers, it sounded like a blanket was removed from the speaker! A recap is definitely a good thing to do with these old speakers, be they M-70's or S-45's(which in my opinion is a good speaker but they are bass light and too weak for the 4400)

a little test , unfortunately bm4400 paired with some pc speakers via fron jack ... didnt know they can do such good work, now i know what bm4400 is capable to do :D

Very nice indeed.  This morning I listened to Darkness on the Edge of Town in the garage, and last night listened to Tunnel of Love in the guest bedroom.

Perhaps after football this evening I'll get Born to Run out and listen on the main system.
