Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
For those people installing masterlink for use with link televisions, can I suggest you consider using a combined cable as shown below for the following reasons:- - The combined Masterlink and aerial cable made by Bosscom costs less than a standard B&O Masterlink cable
- The cable has the same technical spec as the B&O cable, in fact they make all the B&O cables.
- You can also purchase a wall outlet with a combined aerial and Masterlink socket as well
Before anyone asks, I do not work for Bosscom

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
Just check to make sure the cables are suitable to your setup. You could end up using lots of connectors and fair amounts of exposed, split cable and having a poor RF link signal. ML is a BUS system so that extra rooms can run off by simply using ML connector boxes and convienant junctions from the one cable. B&O like you to use a single RF cable from the newer external modulators to each TV for the best signal quality. To link the cable as one won't always work. Beoaus.

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
Keith, thank you bringing this up, I have tried to get a dealer list from them some time before, but no response. I really like the "power" link cable, hopefully it is the version that works with the new speakers. Karsten

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
Lee has both the cable and Boscom Wall Socket covers for sale with LIFESTYLE AV. I purchased six from him last year, wired, and installed the units under the concerned gaze of my wife. I first ran each cable run per room into a PVC wall box, which the Boscom wall socket plate then covers, safe and secure. She is satisfied with the looks and outcome. This was no easy task as the walls are masonry. Wallboard would have been fair easier. Note that the antennae connection plugs on the Boscom sockets are single PAL. They can easily be unscrewed and changed to NTSC ( Non HD coaxial / RG 6 ) connectors for North American applications.

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
Excuse my ignorance but I'm just about to embark on masterlinking for the first time (3 Avants in a small flat). Is the aerial part of this cable supposed to give you tv reception from the roof aerial, or does it replace the RF cable I'd need to run between the Avants to be able to share video sources? Thanks

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
Hi everyone, Just a quick "spanner" to throw into the works! Whilst I agree that the combined Masterlink and Aerial cable is a smart idea, I would argue that Powerlink and mains power should NOT be combined together, especially not for long cable runs. One of the first things you learn when studying electronics (after "don't cut the red wire"!) is that you should avoid running power and signal cables together. This is for a very valid reason; Powerlink audio and data signals are typically less than 1 volt, whereas mains power can be up to 240 volts depending on the country of use. Over a length of cable, the 50-60Hz frequency from the power cable will be induced into the signal wires, giving a mid-bass "buzz" through the speakers. Conventional cable screening does little to reduce this effect. So, in summary, Powerlink plus mains power within one cable looks nice, but it is not a sensible solution (except as a last resort for very short cables runs). I don't know if anyone from Bosscomm posts on this forum, but I would be interested to hear what testing has been done on this cable in terms of electromagnetic compatibility (ie. leakage of interference from the power wires into the audio wires). (Waiting to be shot down in flames!) Steve.

Hi Keith, Greg's comment got me thinking, hence my post earlier. Best regards, Steve.

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
I don't know really how you can the power cable separate from the powerlink cables... with mysetup in particular all the wires run from floor stands and to the beosound for about 3 metres... there is a hum, but it's extremely faint

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
My dealer says that the Bosscom's are not particularly reliable and not of great quality. Can anyone confirm this from personal experience?

Of course they say that! They don't make money by recommending alternative makes of their cables. Bosscom's quality is just fine with my experience and also with comments on the forum in the past.

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
Just to drag this thread up from the dead...
I have a flat with 3 rooms. I want to link the main room and my bedroom, but thought I'd wire up the spare room while I was at it. To get to the bedroom, the easiest way may be to go through the spare room first.
With this cable and some of the Bosscom wallplates, would it be possible to connect these 'serially' - i.e.:
Main Room ----------- Spare Room ---------- Bedroom
Or do I have to run two lengths of this?

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
You can connect Masterlink in series as you wish to do or in a star configuration or a mixture of both.
In your situation just daisychain the masterlink from one room to the next

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
Thanks Keith. I think I already knew this part, so I should have been a little clearer. I understand I can daisy chain the masterlink without issue, but using this dual masterlink/antenna cable - can I daisy chain the RF signal? Or will I run into problems? The total distance isn't that large, so I'm hoping that I wont!
If I can do this, do the Bosscom RF/Masterlink wall sockets allow enough space for connecting two cables at once?
Final question - do you know anyone who sells this cable? I've tried, but not succeeded! I found one online shop, but it seems to be broken (http://www.giftsaver.co.uk/acatalog/masterlink.html)
Thanks!

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
The total distance of Masterlink cable can be up to 185 metres.
When it comes to the 75 ohm RF video cable the story is totally different because the key is "impedance matching"
If the cable lengths between rooms are quite short you may get away with tapping into the cable, but there will be signal quality loss.
To ensure perfect analogue picture quality you should use a good distribution amplifier like B&O's HERE and/or a good quality splitter as shown below which will ensure good impedance matching.

Re: Using a combined Masterlink & Aerial Cable
Thanks again Keith - if it's not plain sailing, I think I'll abandon the idea of tapping the RF in the spare room and just wire in the masterlink. It was only for completeness:
I have no B&O kit in that room as yet, and my future plan is to put a Beolink Active and a pair of speakers in - I don't think there's enough room for me to put a TV in there, so I doubt I'll ever bother.

I have always thought the BV6 makes a very compact satellite TV / link room speaker arrangement
Are there second hand ones near you ?
First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*
