BeoMedia 1 - What updates can we expect?

Having used BeoMedia 1 now for a week or so I'd be interested in what B&Os roadmap for the product is.  The obvious thing missing to me is Album Artwork,  I don't think it would be a huge effort for it to be added.

Does anyone know what B&O have in mind for future releases of the software / firmware?

Being able to list Albums by Artist would be good. We could make our wish list here. I would be interested to know also if anyone knows b&o's plans for software features for beoplayer / beomedia1.

    Regards

How about a Videos sub menu and folder?

It would be nice to see sub folders under photos,  for example Holiday / Spain 2003, Hoilday / France 2004 etc

I would like the BeoMedia2 had similar features than a MacMini but full operational with the Beo4/5.

     This will be perfect.

"Albums by Artist would be good" Master of the understatement Peter! Cannot believe the interface is only two level - SURELY eveyone wants to search by artist, then by album, then by track at some stage........in awe of the fact that this is not possible....

Re: BeoMedia 1 - What updates can we expect?

Album artwork is a terrific idea for Beomedia.  I think there should also be a way to network Beomedia to play music from my iTunes library at least for the non DRM music.  I would like the ability to add internet radio stations that are not on the official list.  Beomedia does not handle multiple cd albums very well.  That should be fixed.

Finally there should be a way to upgrade the hard drive to a larger size.  I have an earlier Beomedia 1 and would like the newer 250 mb disk.  I have been told by B&O that is not possible.

Better user manuals and documentation are needed.

The power supply on my BM1 failed  - have just had it replaced under warranty

The dealer was firmly of the opinion that this product is now obsolete - no further updates are scheduled.

Re: BeoMedia 1 - What updates can we expect?

Will the BeoMedia 1 see any revisions? No. Will we continue to support it? Certainly.

The BeoMedia 1, like your BeoSound 3000, BeoSound 1, BeoVision MX 5500, etc. will be the same tomorrow as it is today. It is just as good a product today as it was when it was bought. It handles its tasks well and with a nice interface. It can hopefully be assumed that anyone who bought it liked it at the time and hopefully still does.

I'm certainly not arguing that it's unreasonable to expect updates on a software based product, but I know we've struggled (more so than many of us have been comfortable with) with the transition to the new era of AV. In other words, the BeoMedia 1 was designed not like an iPhone to be a tabula rasa for whatever ideas come down the pike, but like a traditional BeoSound audio system that performed a set of tasks in a certain way.

The BeoSound 5 is the first product that's come out to acknowledge the way modern electronics are built, i.e. platforms versus products. We are aware of many supplemental add-ons as well as software alterations in the coming year and beyond, so I feel fairly confident that we won't find ourselves in the same position with the new generation of products.

Anyone who truly feels they've outgrown the BeoMedia 1, though, should ask their dealer about a trade-in option. I am aware of some privately owned shops making this offer when approached.

There is scarcely anything in this world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey. - John Ruskin

Re: BeoMedia 1 - What updates can we expect?

I nearly bought one based on sales approach that it would be updated and developed as part of its product offering. It was not described as a static product that would remain just as it was.... The story did change a year later though...
